Hello everyone,

I'm putting an np205 round pattern into my 1983 k10 and am looking for a w-crossmember. Not looking for a single hump (already have one), because I want the extra clearance for my exhaust to run over and not under the crossmember. If any of you have one, preferably with a skidplate, please let me know how much you want for it with shipping to 96768 (Hawaii). I also have a single hump (with skidplate), my 1983 crossmember, and a 1984 1-ton crossmember (with skidplate) if you want a trade. Thanks

Sounds like you're looking for the '85 and '86 'member.

Unfortunately I don't have any spares laying around nor am I ready to tear apart the '85 K20 either.

I would be interested in the '84 skidplate from the 1 ton if you would separate it from the 'member.

is this a "W" crossmember? Sorry, best picture I have. There is another hump with skid plate.

thatk30guy, I will definitely keep you in mind, let me see what comes up first.

k85octane, from what I can see that is the crossmember I'm looking for. Is that your truck? Looks too pretty to be a parts truck.

yeah, not a parts truck. Just wondering what people meant by "W" crossmember. Now I know. If my clocking ring had fit when I attempted the task, I'd have a new crossmember by now. Instead, just waiting for another ring. It wont be soon, couple months I guess, but I'll post when it's removed.

If it will be for sale, please let me know. I may still be interested if something doesn't come up by then.

can i see a couple more pictures of a w crossmember? i didn't even know they were different from year to year!

thatk30guy, I was noticing that the crossmembers in your pics are mounted above the frame rails on your k30 and v30. In the pic from k85octane, his crossmember is mounted below the frame rail. Do you know if this difference in mounting position is the only difference, or are there different heights(drops) like the earlier year crossmembers. I did a search a while back and it said that this was probably the only difference, but it was not a definitive answer. I'm hoping that this is true, but hoping for a final answer.
Also, I noticed that on your v30 the exhaust is running above your crossmember. Is this the factory design or did you have it run above. I was under the assumption that the upwards hump was for exhaust clearance below the crossmember.

K30 frames are "taller" meaning they are like 1.5" or so bigger going downward rather than upward in referrence to the "taller" slang. The 'members are mounted on the top of the bottom rail only on the '85 to '91 trucks since the '84 and older K30's use a flat 'member which is shallower than the K5, 10 and 20's. I have one of these 'members and I will get a pic of it besides a K5 'member to show the difference.

Exhaust is stock on the V30.

thatk30guy, I understand what you are saying, I have both types of the earlier crossmembers. But, if you look at the picture that k85octane posted of the crossmember on his 1985 you will notice that his w crossmember is mounted under the frame rail. I was probably not clear in my question, but what I was trying to ask was whether there was a difference in crossmember height during the '85 to '91 years, or was the difference only in the mounting position on the frame rail.

Easy. His appears to be a K5 frame from his sig which denotes he owns one.

K5 frames are "shorter" than the K30's so the 'member mounts under the frame as opposed as the K30 which mounts on top of the lower frame rail.

I can take pics and measurements of the side frame rails with pics of the 'member on both of my '85 K20 and 30 to show the differences. Let me snap a few pics...

First pic shows the 8" tall K30 frame and the crossmember mounted inboard resting on the lower rail.

Second pic shows the 6.25" tall K20 frame and the 'member on the bottom of the rail.

Thank you very much. That clears up what I have been wondering for quite some time. So, there is no difference in crossmembers (besides the w and single hump) between the 1 ton and the 1/2-3/4 ton trucks for the '85 to '91 years, only the mounting positions change. I should be able to pick up any w-crossmember and it should work. Awesome!:waytogo:

$55 for crossmember

priority mail shipping $50

parcel post shipping $27 (may take up to a month to get there)

the drivers side drop has a slight tweak as if someone caught something with it. Should show in end view.
