I finally found some rare black OEM seat belts for my truck. Problem is one of the reels is locked. Has anyone had luck taking these apart to fix the reel? I'd send them back to the salvage yard if they weren't so hard to find in that color.

There is a mechanism that locks the belt when the truck noses down under hard braking. You might be able to bolt in in place and rock it back and forth as you pull on the belt . Just an idea on my part, may work or not. The ratchet lock paw is engaged.

Check youtube for videos. I remember seeing *something* about our design belts and repairing them.

I took one apart a long time ago, and then threw it away instead of reasssembling lol.

It has been a while since i looked at one, but I would look and dig around to see if it's possible to manually unlatch the the retractor.
Maybe????

I had a set like this. After years of fussing I went harness. Yay

Drilled the 2 rivets, took it apart and was able to clean it up, un-jam it, and oil it. Luckily it was a simple fix. Then I realized the other side is also stuck on the other reel. Had to take that one apart too and after cleaning/oil it was still jamming. Found one of the springs was in the wrong place and now both are working. I just need to get new rivets.

In the future, I'm going to be more careful on buying parts back east in the rust belt. Some rust on the seat belt loops that go in the rear pillars and the middle male part of the buckle is also rusted.
