I use one of these:

I've stated it many times: It's obnoxious, gaudy, and hopefully seen before anyone smashes the window. Nothing is going to stop someone with enough time and the right equipment, but I assume that even now, if one of these trucks is stolen, just like any other GM of this era, the most common way to do it is to break the window, then smash the column with a hammer, and this prevents that.

I had someone try to move my truck (it was blocking what they were trying to steal) and I had the column guard on. Thieves weren't too bright, but they tried to cut the e-brake in three places (succeeded in cutting one of the cable hangers, which gave them slack) and smashed the trailer locks off, yet didn't even mess with breaking into the truck itself. I'd like to think this helped.

Years of wear on my trucks shift lever & where it goes in the steering colum has allowed me to remove the pin holding the shifter to the collar on the colum with my fingers--and I can stash the lever in the glove box and lock it...I've only done it a few times when I had to park in a "bad" neigborhood...

I also have one of those things that hook around the brake pedal to the steering wheel with me,(the "Club")-but never used it to lock them together--I have used it to ward off a few thugs once who approached me one night though!..

Both of these "security" devices could end up putting you in more danger,if you had to hop in the truck and make a speedy getaway--by the time you got the "club" off or the shift lever back on,you'd have been dragged out and beaten by then probably.

When you have a 6.2 diesel that is a moot point anyways,no speedy getaways--by the time you cycle the glow plugs,and hope to hell it'll fire up on the first attempt,your already dead meat...also the diesel ,with manually operated glow plugs and cold start advance switches,few thieves would probably be able to figure out how to get it to start--a built in anti-theft feature..:blush:..my truck looks crappy enough to not attract much attention too..

I have one of these steering column locks, and a brake peddle to steering wheel lock bar. I also have a key switch that turns the fuel pumps off.

Here is the URL for a company that sells them http://www.kirbanperformance.com/product/44093/COLUMN+PRO-GARD+STEERING COLLAR+LOCK+#7007.html.

well you could do many things..

you can have:
ignition cutoff
electric fuel pump if you have one

using a switch...

so for me I have thought of using the floor high beam button as my ignition kill switch, then one of these to kill power to the fuel pump..
