Have an 82 K5 with 305 stock with mild mods, like intake and carb. Running but not like I want. Would love to do a eng swap but I have been told that I would need several thousand to do like a ls swap. I am curious if I can drop like a 90 5.7 fuel injected engine in or something that would bolt up to transmission and tcase, with least expensive and no help. Or would maybe consider trading 82 for drivetrain for 80 . Any help or consideration is greatly appreciated

A 5.7 will bolt up just like the 305.
The intake and carb will work on the 350, carb might need minor tuning for larger engine.
Using the efi can be done as well, more work and expense.
Some technical electrical work.

Some of these K5 came with freeway gear ratios. Changing to lower ring and pinion of at least 3.73 to 4.56 depending on desired tire size. Will wake up the performance.
If the rpo code sticker is still in glove box this will give you the factory equipment. 40 years a lot could have been changed

Yes, you can swap it in. You should try to get the fuel tank from the same or similar vehicle. It will make it less intensive

A 1990 5.7 will require a different intake manifold, or modification to the four center bolt holes.
