I got new carpet for christmas and i want to refurbish my door panels and trim. Has anyone used the sem dyes on door panels and plastic trim i tried the dupli-color vinyl and fabric and i was unimpressed it started peeling after a couple of weeks

just bought some more SEM colorcoat the other day for my stock.. after shooting Mutt's door panels a couple weeks ago.. they came out sweet...

for a dash and low traffic pieces, it can't be beat... high wear areas, it'll eventually start to wear a bit.. like the tops of door panels and such, but it holds up quite well for a good amount of time...

i hear krylon fusion isn't bad either, but can't testify.. i'd probably trust the sem more..

you can also buy qrts of major brands like ppg and such and shoot thru a gun..

I don't... i scrub them multiple times with soapy hot water and a red scuff pad...thoroughly dry.. than damp towel/dry towel with denatured alcohol and paper towels.... adhesion promoter works too, but I haven't used it since the body shop days and have never had a sticking issue...

the key is the multiple soapy washes.. ya have to realize most interior parts have been douched many times with armor all and such.... if you don't thoroughly degrease, they WILL fisheye...

I really like the sem line of products , we use them in my shop all the time...Their rust shield is some awesome stuff too for under carriage (compare with por-15)..I have seen a buddy of mine use sem rustshield (black ) on a dash pad and door panels of a 67 firebird he was changing the color of the interior on ,gold to black, he sprayed it with the gun , masked and cleaned it properly first but man , it came out Great!!! I thought for sure it would look like crap i was wrong it came out looking like they were new!Couldn't believe it..said he learned that trick in some body shop out west he worked in , held up great for the almost 2 years he kept the car afterwards. Some tough stuff there..
Transtar also makes some good interior paints...

Back when I mixed auto paints in stores,SEM used to reccomend using fast drying laquer thinner to wash off all the vinyl parts before applying it...it really made it bite in good...I used it to change my 72 K5's interior panels to satin black when I could not find 2 matching "Cheyenne" door panels after some douch stole the original doors off it...it didn't peel at all, even on the dash, but the seats and arm rests did wear off the black after a few years some...another good brand of interior dyes are Mar-Hyde ,they really "dye" the plastic, its not just paint that can lift or peel...Dupli-Color was probably the worst one out of all I've dealt with ...

autobody supply stores... maybe some better car parts stores here and there..
