Semi and equipment diesel mechanics please read

Reman ECM made it here. Had it programmed to the S/N the Freightliner dealer gave me. Then pulled the ECM from the engine. Different S/N.:doah::confused:

Took them both to the waist of time dealer, no help. So I called the local Cat tractor rental and repair guys. Dropped them off today and should get them back tomorrow AM. They are going to pull the program from the old to verify the new.

It runs.

For those who care, this was how the fight started.

Cat dealer calls me and tells me that the Personality Module is incorrect in the new ECM. Cat wants $500 for the password to correct the personality module.:eek1: This was on a Friday, I tell him to hold off.

Call GoECM right away and explain the issue to the guy. He apologizes and said the correct one will be sent out Monday, next day delivery. Does not show up on Tuesday.:dunno: Call him Wednesday morning. OOps, somebody blew it and did not process the order. The tech calls me back to verify everything before programming and shipping it.

I get the new one Thursday. Mount it up after 2 hours. The truck would not fire up. A little juice in the intake would fire off and the truck would run. Minus one cylinder.

Pull the codes. 128 is a Personality Module conflict. So it still was not right. Call GoECM to tell them I am sending both of theirs back. I can get a new one from Cat for $1800. I was already into the Cat dealer for $350. GoECM tells me there will be a $140 restocking charge for each unit. I tell him that I am going to make it my life's goal to let everyone I know, through multiple forums, that GoECM does not have a clue what they are doing.

Call Cat and tell him to order the new ECM.

GoECM owner calls me 10 minutes later. Apologizes for the issues. Waives the restocking charges and is paying 50% of the cost from Cat to make the first ECM from GoECM work.

If I would have been told up front that additional programming would be needed, I would have researched a crap load more. And just gone with the new unit. GoECM claimed to have told me that. They did not until the last call.

I picked up the ECM from Cat this morning. Only 30 minutes to install now. Getting good at. It took 10 seconds to fire due to the fuel having drained out because the fuel filter was off for 5 days. Runs great and a little smoother than before.

Now to sell the pig before I have to spend any more money on it.

sell it? wait, I'm lost, I thought the whole big garage was made to fit that, etc..

and isn't the back all custom made for your rig and such?

or do you just not need it these days, and it would still get good money as it is set up?

I am too tired to screw with stuff like this. My wife and are looking at all of the crap we have aquired in 1.5 years since we bought the house. Need to cut back.

We will see. If it goes, so does the Jimmy. Package deal anyone?

ah, ok.. whatev's ya need to do.... gotta be happy!

This would more than likely be one of those "honey, I swear I am trying to sell it". But at $100k, it would never sell.

Most of this is just venting. But I am getting tired of dealing with them.
