ok, so my work truck is a 82 3/4 ton with the semi floater rear end and 10 bolt front. its not going to ever be a wheeler or anything, but after a little brake inspectin i will need pads this summer and the drums have a healthy lip on em. so is it worth it to do the TSM disk swap? i plan to have the truck a while and it would make for easier repeat service down the road. anyone else do this? comments? thanks,

jason

What's the TSM kit cost, and how much can you make up a set with the Cadillac stuff for?

*IMO* unless you need the discs for whatever reason, IF the drums are cheaper to replace, then replace them. If it's near a wash, go with discs.

From what I've seen, big rear discs are better at holding the trucks on the hills. My 14SF drum brakes will not hold my truck on a hill nose up (emergency brake) while my dads disc'd 14FF will. Not saying my 14SF's are adjusted perfectly, but no matter how hard I push that pedal, they will not stop the vehicle from rolling on a steep hill when parked.

On your burb? I don't know about yours, but my rear drums work awesome. The shoes are cheap, and last a long time.

Mine is stock height, but i have no reason right now to upgrade to disks....even with towing 4-6000lbs . Plus, you run into master cylinder size issues sometimes with teh swap. Not worth it for me.

BUT, if you are goign to actually get new drums AND shoes, i'd look into it. The ebrake deal just always seems to be a pain on the swap

its on my 3/4 ton pickup. and yes the drums are due too. haven't priced em yet. i'm sure with the master cyl and the e brake deal, its still cheaper to stay drums
