At the gas tank is a slip on connection for the sending unit. Is there a way to thread that stud and put a nut on it or is using solder a better idea? I ask because there is the problem with my gauge not working it doesn't make a good connection. not to mention when i turn on the stereo it doesn't like my subs.

I might be a bit hesitant to solder or thread anything on the sender. You say push on, does the connector have the springy "fingers" that engage the post? I'm wondering if that connector can be found. and just splice. Pic?

I don't think I'd want to try and solder or thread it, because knowing GM, it's probably not a real sturdy connection to the sending unit. If not the ground, probably used a seal of sorts that might be harmed by heating it up too much, and if soldered to the tank, threading might just break it off. If you were real careful you might be able to thread it, but I think I'd rather replace the connector if possible. If the diameter is right, you might be able to thread it without much risk of breaking it off, you'd just have to decide if it was worth the risk, depending how well it seems attached to the tank.

I assume you know that this is definitely the problem. Can't recall hearing of a problem at the tank side before.

ill get a pic, and ya the bass hits and it losses connection unplug and plug back in and it works as long as your turn the stereo off

here is what connects to the sending unit and the stud that comes out

i wish i would have kept the link i seen about electrical stuff, they had all kinds of things like this

put a little pinch on the connector so it's tighter with some dielectric grease.

i wish i had the name of that type of connection it would be easier to look up

I'd agree with the pinching and dielectric. I put dielectric on every electrical connection I make now, to try and stave off corrosion as long as possible.

Make sure the pin is sanded clean first.

well i put the dielectric grease on sanded the pin with avery cloth and no change, i hate this thing

sounds like you may have another issue, possibly at the gauge or the sender itself. I'm leaning toward a gauge issue if the bass is affecting it.

changed the gauge no change in how it behaves, not to mention the cheap sending units

It could be that the wiper on the rheostat of the sending unit is losing connection with the vibration from the bass. When I replaced my fuel pump I cleaned the wiper arm and put more of a bend in it to make sure it had a solid connection.

You made it sound like the problem isn't just from the bass, but from when the subs are turned on. That sounds like a ground issue.

im going to clean the ground tomorrow, hope the wind isnt blowing 40 + miles an hour

0-90 ohm is the range of the sender . get a ohm meter and check it . older senders can get sticky or loose function .

also grounds like to fall off these units I have seen over the years . easy fix is a hose clamp and length of wire . clamp the wire to 1 of the hard lines and then to a bolt on the frame.

the sending unit is only a year old,got it from a1auto
the ground is still in place it is soldered to the part of the sender(came that way), and i have it put to the body im going to ad another ground to the frame to body towards the rear tomorrow, and clean ground connection.

while i was driving when the bas would hit it would work then quit. it was waving at me again
