I have talked myself into wanting to do this swap. I am rebuilding this 6.2L and adding a banks turbo and lots of other goodies. I really want the d-max fan and fan clutch. I know I will need the newer style timing cover and a new water pump. I have a few questions.

I keep hearing that the serp setups put the AC on the passenger side and the Alt on the drivers. This is swapped from what I currently have, are there some years where the AC is on the drivers side and Alt on the passenger side?

What is involved if the AC and the Alt swap sides?

Will I have any major clearance issues with the banks turbo?

Do i need the newer style thermostat housing / crossover pipe or will the one from the 6.2L work?

Will my AC line fittings fit the new style compressor?

What Alt should I look for? I plan on adding a winch and a few lights in the future?

thanks!

Stock alt. from a '90's body style, which conveniently fits the serp. brackets;) is rated for max output of 130 amps. Compared to your stock 68 or so, this is a pretty decent upgrade. If you want to go really wild, look for the high output version off a '94-'96 9C1 or any other large luxury GM car. What you're looking for is basically the same as the CS130 but it's slightly larger and has a plastic shrouded fan instead of the open steel one.

Not sure about clearance with the banks turbo and the AC compressor, but the GM turbo won't clear your AC box on the firewall, and I'm pretty sure i've heard of people running the banks with a serp kit. The compressor pretty much fits into the alt hole, so clearance shouldn't be an issue. You may need new A/C lines, I never hooked mine up.

Unsure about clearance on the crossover, pretty sure it's fine but I've always had dozens of spares sitting around so I just used 6.5 stuff. If you end up buying my serp kit I'll throw in the 6.5 crossover for free.

Also you don't need to replace the entire timing cover, just the w/p backing plate.

Hope this helps a bit, I know the stock stuff inside and out but haven't worked with the Banks stuff much.

OK someone on the diesel page forums told me that 96 and newer ran the AC on the drivers side and Alt on the passenger side. What year did they run the 130 gpm water pump and twin thermostat? Should I just look for one of those years and grab the water pump, backing plate, and twin thermostats also?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's correct, '96 is when they changed the dash style too. The 130GPM wp started in '97 along with the twin 'stats.

95 got the first new dash style swap out in the inside of the trucks.

but in gas the motor and full serp brackets didnt change till 96 the first year vortec.
