Serpentine Brackets

Ok I need some help I want to say someone told me that I can use the serpentine set up/ brackets on my 88 chevy suburban engine has a 350 and I want to say someone said the 4.3 set up of like astro vans would work where they right and am I right? If so what all do I take off any help would be much apreciated thanks

I would stick to trucks. The vans can get weird IIRC. Mine came from a '90 4.3 1500.

Regular tools plus a puller for the power steering pulley, torques drives, and torque sockets. The brackets are held to the block with studs and the studs have those damn torques nuts. If you want to take the AC compressor off, you'll need the torques drives things, look like star allens.

Reverse rotation water pump needed too

(I don't know how to spell torques, I'm sure it's spelled different)

The tool "torques" are called Torx bits.

Thank you And I don't know how to differentiate between the male and female versions of Torx bits/sockets. Both will be needed

For example, instead of T-40 it would be E-40. (I don't know if those are the sizes you need, just using them as an example.)

no problemo...

"external" are called sockets, "internal" are available as bit inserts, drivers like screwdrivers, and L shaped like Allen wrenches.


You will come across "Tamper resistant" fasteners with a pin in the center. The bits for those will have a hole in it.

When I was searching for mine, I learned that most 4.3's do not have the air pump mount on the lower pass side making a cleaner look (assuming you're not using an air pump).

oddly enough the one I used came with a pump and pancake AC compressor making the swap easy since I needed the pump
