Does anyone know if I can replace the serp. belt on a 91 GMC 1/2 ton 350 ,that has AC. to a belt for a non AC application (to by-pass the pump)
Would it be simply different belt lengths or are there other things like the routing of the belt?

I am asking because the AC pump seized solid and it's not really required up here (why waste money to fix it :haha: )

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

First off, send me your AC unit... =) and secondly, yes, you only need to change the length of the belt... just head over to the parts store and tell them you have a <insert engine size here> with no AC that you need a belt for.

ehh, my non/AC serpentine setup has an idler pulley in place of the AC compressor so I don';t know about that.

I did a serp setup on my 71 blazer from a 91 cop car, I carry 2 belts, one short to bypass the A/C comp (I converted it to a compresser) and one long to run it, only thing I noticed is my idler pulley doesn't like the short belt at all, puts tension in a direction it wasen't designed for. Try to find an AC delete idler pulley.

PM Chris Demartini(forget if thats spelled right) he should have the part number for the idler pulley.

LMC sells a bypass pulley/idrler to bypass the AC pump. I think it's like 35-40 bucks..

Thanks for the info everyone.
I guess I will just wing it with a short belt and if it looks like it will cause problems go to the replacment idler set up.
Unless there is more to the story...

Mine's set up like this. Got the bypass pulley from Chevy. Red arrow point to pully. Not sure how you would set it up with out the pulley because of the idler and tensioner. I'm sure there are numerous ways to do it.

mines like that minus the air pump idler. Don't see any reason for that to be there.

yeah, there's just a little bit of tension on the air pump ider pulley. Maybe because it's a "long" streach there? Probably work well without it. It came with the kit!

I really appreciate the pics. , but I have an embarassing situation
Because I am un-able to pony up for a membership yet I can only see them if you put them in the post  (kids , mortgage , no job right now and an EX. dragging me to court again  )

crap. That didn't work Go to my web page below. The pICS are in the Blazer project page. The very bottom of the page, far right. Two red X's. Click on them.

the loads on that thing I wouldn't even consider it. All you need to do is send a pulley and belt through your hood, just cause you cheaped out on a $30 part.

Part number for the a/c delete pulley is 10118713. My last check on the price at a dealer I go to was $34.37.

I would not run without the something in the a/c position as the tensioner was designed to have the pulley ride on the smooth side of the belt and the tensioner would not pull the right way to keep it tight. I've got the truck serpentine setup on mine and have left an a/c compressor in place since I've been too lazy to go get the delete pulley.

I don't have the idler pulley where the air pump went. running a slightly shorter belt takes up for the lack of it.
