well how much should i expect to pay for a decent servise body? the is a 84 GMC 3500, 4x4, daul rear wheels,350,200,000 miles, on board air compresser, cap on servise body, body is pretty clean, he wants $3700

It just depends on what the truck looks like inside and out.

What kind of compressor is on it? Is it a crew cab?

I paid $4350 for my K30 crew and had nothing inside the service body at all. Truck had 93K on it with a 454 and new Th400.

This should give you a rough idea of the shape that mine was in when I purchased mine and felt I wasn't getting hosed. You'll have to do your own "blue book" for your self on how clean that '84 is.

I would place the value at atleast $1,000 less for a regular cab compared to a crewcab. There again, you'll have to decide if that sounds right to you or not.

Let me know if you have any questions on setting up equipment for the truck. I've since completely changed the exterior of mine, added a large compressor, welder, tools, hose reels, etc.

all he said was engine driven compresser. and it is a reg. cab.
i wish it had single rear wheels but it cant be that hard to find a 1 ton 14 bolt
next time i drive by i will snap a couple of pics

ive seen pics of your truck since you painted it, looks really good.

seeing where you are from I would grab a creeper and crwal under that truck. if its not all rotted out then you found a diamond. but 200K, the location and its not exactly what you want. might be to high of a price. I would pay at least $2000 for it if it runs good and the body is still decent. older service bodies don't last long if they are not taken care of.

for the most part i called the guy once to get some info i am just watching the truck to see if he ever comes down on price

The York A/C pump setup running off the engine is not that great for this type of application IMHO. Yorks just don't make that much air unfortunately. It's a good setup for a wheeler for filling tires and running a gun here and there but with a full on service body and wrenching I would go with a bed mounted engine driven compressor. Plus, with me having a carbed 454 I didn't want to have to run the engine for air all the time.

I use an Emglo 4 piston compressor and 12HP Kohler, it's plenty for air guns, die grinders, and can push my 1" impact fairly well for short bursts.

I'd wait out the guy too if it isn't a truck that you really want. Times are tougher financially, gas is high, and it might be a tough sale for the guy.

the trucks been sitting in the same spot for almost a month but the guy hasnt budged on his price at all.

So you've talked to him yourself and tried some haggeling??

Sometimes that can be a good sign though too, him holding out and not being quick and easy to part with the truck could mean that it's a pretty solid piece. Not always, but seems to be the case quite often. I couldn't get the PO to budge much on my K30, and made comments that he thought what he was asking was what it was worth for a solid truck.

A year later I've done nothing mechanically but change the oil and change the valve cover gaskets on a 26 year old truck...

$3700 isn't bad if it's ready to hit the road and doesn't really need any attention.

i snaped some pics today. i was wrong on the price it's accauly $3900

i dont like the cap on the truck
the interior is pretty clean

Hmm..... rusty...thats a price killer.:doah:

being a dumb 'ol Californian I'll have to let someone else chime in about the rust issue as it's not something I know about much.:doah:

that topper hat thing may not be that bad, when it's cold it would give you a place to rebuild parts inside, keep tools and boxes of stuff out of the weather, etc. They are just really ugly, but great functionality.

It really depends on what you plan on using the truck for, if you are going to be doing service work then yeah, I'd leave the topper. Nice warm spot to rebuild that starter or altenator etc. before you have to go back outside to put it back on.

well here is what i was thinking about doing, future tow rig, with onboard welder, air, ect. so basiclay if you break down wheeling just get back to camp and you got all the tools. i suppose the topper would be nice so you can sleep in the truck.

I'd say keep the topper. I kinda like it in an ugly duckling kind of way.

Has the price still not budged at all??

ive been watching the thing for about 2 months now and the price hasnt moved. the peice of paper in the truck is kinda hard to read now.

The price still hasn't dropped yet???

I wonder how long it will take for him to realize no one will buy it for that price???
