I have a Haynes repair manual which is basically a waste of money. I need a REAL GM service manual for my '90 K5. I'd rather have a hard copy, but it seems that most of these type manuals have gone to CD, so if a CD is all I can get I'm ok with that. Does anyone know where I can get a real service manual? I would even try downloading one. I know this would probably take forever, even if it could be done, but I wouldn't mind giving it a try.

You can buy new paper ones from Helm, http://www.helminc.com, and used ones show up on Ebay now and again.

Just called Helms. Talked to two different people and both told me that there was no such thing as a V10 Blazer or a K5 Blazer. They continued to try to convince me that my truck was an S-10. Even told me they would give me the number to GM so I could determine the correct model of my truck. :rolleyes:

Helms is good for new and nearly new. You'll get better service if you use their automated ordering prompts.

You need to say R/V series. There is no manual for the K5 only, it's for the entire series. 1/2-1 ton.

I've got the '90 GM manual for the R/V series in hard copy, plus the electrical manual, so I know they exist. :)

Will the R/V series be good for subs too?

Yep. The R/V trucks are, for 1988-1991, the Blazer/Jimmy, Suburban, Crew/Bonus cab, and [some] cab-and-chassis trucks, i.e. everything with the old body style. (The new body style in those years got the C/K designation.)

Make more sense?

I know this is a stupid question but if the newer body style had the c/k designation, where did the "K"-5 come from. Wasn't that the designation of the pre-1988 K-5's? I always thought the K5 was changed to the V10 for 88-91.

V=4wd
10=half ton

They stopped using the "K5" badge and moniker after 1988 apparently. 1988 still had the K5 badges, at least from the brochure.

http://www.slosh.com/cars/blazer.html#alphabet

has the entire layout. 1500/2500/3500 started much earlier, but some folks still call 'em 10/20/30. Oy.

Like I posted earlier, factoryautomanuals.com probably has the same/original manual for less than half of Helms' price. I've bought all my manuals from them.:D

Helms is always insane in price from what I've seen. Then again, with the amount of demand, it's probably fairly costly to run them. Ebay is where I've gotten all of mine, but if you can get them elsewhere for less, go for it! :)

I got mine from Ebay for my 81. It has mostly every nut and bolt listed, but does not cover everything like how to troubleshoot a bad horn. Cost me like $30 shipped and covers truck models and vans, and refers to Blazers as SUV type.

My 97 F-body cost like $60 and are as big as a phone book each. Worth every penny.
