Hey guys. I recently purchased an 88 jimmy and noticed when I get on the highway say after 20-30 mins driving the ses light pops on. I assumed it was an egr problem, I never get it going around town. I did the paper clip test today and it gave me 1 flash...pause then 2 flases. Code 12 all clear correct? There is a reciept that came with the service records with the truck that has teh EGR replaced. Any suggestions? Truck runs great other then the light.

I have the same exact problem with my s10 blaze..I have just lived with it for 2 yrs. The trucks always ran fine.

I'd take it to Autozone or the like; most places will plug into a scanner, read the code for you as a freebie. I donno about the ODB-I or whatever those are (is this a full-size or an S-15 Jimmy?) but the scanners can give you more info than just doing the paperclip thing.

google the code. it is OBD1 and you cant get to much Diag. info. make sure the wires arent pulled out of the connector. make sure the wires are in good shape. If it is the egr vavle. pull it off spay some brake cleaner in it and clean it out.
