Hey guys..I think this my last question before getting the truck running...can someone walk me through the torquing of the rocker nuts? I followed the Chiltons manual in doing them but wanted to verify. I put the engine at TDC and tightened a handfull of rockers (whatever the book said) tighten just to no lash in the rod and then one full turn. Then turned the crank to one rev (#6 cyl) and did the rest. Does this sound like the right approach? Thanks again for all the help.

1 full turn past 0 lash seems like a lot. I believe 1/4 turn is sufficient for the standard SBC hydraulic lifters.

Also I believe you will want to rotate the crank in quarter turn increments and adjust the appropriate 2 lifters through two full rotations of the crank.

Yeah, I thought 1 turn was too far also, but chiltons says 3/4 to 1 1/4 turns so I did 1. I dont really trust that book much, that is why I am asking.

1 turn is accurate. I run mine at half a turn, they will rev a little faster. I have seen people run them at 1/4 but it will be easier to float the valves with no more preload than that. But it would still run fine.

that sounds good if you want to be more precise u can adjust them while the motor is running

just loosen a rocker until it starts to tick then tighten till it stops then 1/4 turn past that
