SH*T hit the Fan Swap to 350?? SAME POST updated

/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gifyes the 700R4 blew up today pulling into traffic at about 2000 rpm's. Heard a Loud Bangin sound and thought i lost a drive shaft but the truck keeps going to 40mph. then i had to stop at traffic light The trucks goes really slow and untill about 20mph then goes to 40 fine so i made it home. and put the truck in rev. and the truck wont move untill about 2000 and then more bangin sounds. I want to swap to a TH400 or TH350 which would be the better swap?? i think ill need a kit also for the swap right? im done with 700R4's. thanks for any info On this as i need some help with this which 400 should i go with the Long shaft or short shaft? And the Transmission fluid was at the full mark and vey good looking not burnt or dark but clean nice color red. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

if you go with the 400 you have to find another t-case. if you go with the 350 you will need a spacer to bolt it to your case thats depending on which tcase you have? which one do you have? either way you need to find a 4x4 350 or 400 transmision or i got a good 700r4 ready to put in rite there in fayetteville /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

th350 would be the easiest since it is essentially the same as the 700 without the OD. Get a 350 and it should swap in place of the 700 since they have the same output shaft.(The 350 will not use the adapter at the back of the tranny the 700 uses) So it should bolt up to your transfer case. As for Linkages, I dunno. Kickdown is easy since it is vaccuum!
Sorry about your luck with the 700. I had mine rebuilt with corvette servo, clutches, a ten veign pump, and I likey. Barks the 36's from first to second, has been abused, and still takes mud drags in style while making the 6 hour commute down the freeway to school. Good Luck with the swap!

So there is a diffence in the TH350 or TH400 2wd and the 4wd?? Whats the VIN # for the Tcase info and what would be the letter or # for the ID of the different Tcase's? yeah that last time had a B&M shift kit and corvette servo put in and it was shiftin so hard that it ripped the front pinon gears and i had to drop it and rebuild it agin and tone the shifts down. So i want something Stronger i wish i could use the TH400 but if its going to have to change alot of stuff ill just go to TH350.

What Tcase do you currently have? The turbo 350 has a shorter shaft than the 700, so the adapter between the 700 and tcase gets tossed when the 350 goes in. As for the 400, different splined output. 2 wd and 4wd trannies have different tails on them, just need to swap the outputshafts and rear of the housing. Now if you have the electric tranny, and want to go non electric, I have no idea what may need to be done to keep the motor happy. that is why I keep all of my stuff mechanical. By the way, how are you tearing out so many trannies?? Your cable was set correctly right??

i am bias on this one. NOT a TH350. i have blown to many of them up. yeah i drive like a jack@$$, but still. also my top choice(once again, BIAS on this one) is an SM465.

If you build it right and treat it right, a 700 will last forever behind a 350 in a 1/2 ton like yours. Keep it out of OD unless you're on the highway. The 350 or 400 is going to require some x-member mods and more than likely an adapter. You will also have to hook up your speed sensor and keep your computer from going nuts without your 700. Regardless of the tranny, install a BIG cooler.

Upshifts on a Turbo 350 and 400 are controlled by a combination of vacuum and the governor. Passing gear kickdown is controlled by a cable on a Turbo 350 and by an electrical switch on the throttle on a Turbo 400. Either is still much simpler to set up correctly than a 700R4.

This makes it sound FAR easier than it is. In order to change the output shaft you have to pretty much strip the tranny down to a bare case. The output shaft is the very last part that comes out. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Labor-wise it will cost about the same as a full tranny rebuild. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well this was the same 700R4 on its 3rd rebuild so Im wondering if its just worn out. yeah TPU sells a kit for the TH350 swap and prob the TH400 swap too. It was all set up right but i had been hearing some noise from the TC for a long time like mabey the fins rubbing or something idk but it was making noise. I got a transmission guy that im friends with so hell help me set up what ever i go with it will more then likey be a TH350 or another 700R4. Idk ive never really tryed to ID the Tcase it was rebuilt the last time i took the tranny out in the driveway. I never really looked at the markings on it. Well i talked to TPU today and they said the TH350 core with guaranted hard parts for $75. It doesnt matter if its 2wd or 4wd b/c Im getting the 4x4 700R4 to TH350 swap it has a special output shaft and all the other parts needed to do the swap for $104. Then im going to get heavy duty clutchs and a offroad shift kit in it. Im going with heavy duty parts to try and make it as bullet proof as possible for my truck. I think seeing how im alreay down i might as well go ahead and put that cam in that i got but i might not. should be getting my transmission on sat early but dont know when it will be done hopefully sat but it will be me and ronnie doing it with me mostly so i know how it all works and then i can build TH350s on my own plus ill be getting ahead of the rest of the PPL in my Tech school cuz were on suspension and steering now. well be using all heavy duty parts and such to try to make it as bullet proof for my truck as possible.
