I'm just about to start a dovetail, bob on my pick up. I run 4" BDS lift springs that are about 9 years old. I really like the set up and don't need more flex or droop right now. I am still running a slip yoke and it all works great for me. When I do the bob I will have to remove my shackle brackets and mount them in the same position but they will neet to mount to my bumper bracket which is plate bolted to the frame. Right now I smash my factory shackle hangers regularily and have not damaged ot cracked them. I was thinking of making brackets to flip my shackles without lifting the truck.

My questions are:
If I do a flip it will give me a little more departure angle but will it be harder on the springs if I hit them instead of the shackle brackets?

Is it harder on the shackle itself to run it flipped?

I plan to run my factory shackles to save $$

What do you think?

Springs are really tough ever tried to cut or drill one? I wouldn't worry about hurting your springs, I push my front leaves over stuff all the time and have never had an issue.

I wouldn't bother flipping the shackle just for clearance. Before I linked the rear I just cut the frame right at the end of the shackle bracket. Of course I hit it a few times but it never kept me from making an obstacle.
