I know there is a lot of different information about both of these options for lifting the rear of our trucks. I have searched and have not been able to find any sort of direct comparison on how they affect the various characteristics important to wheeling, daily driving, and towing. I was curious how people who have used both or a combination felt about how they impact flex, articulation, handling, load capacity, etc. I would like to hear about other parts needed to make these options work right like offsetting the axle with zero rates, and degree shims.

Personally I am debating my lift options and would like to make the most educated decision possible. My past off roading vehicles were a TJ on 33s and a cut fender Ramcharger on 35s, but I have always been a chevy guy at heart and feel like I have found a truck worth hanging on to for a while. I know I am going to go with some Dunlop or Mud King 35 inch mud tires from one of the local shops. I am looking for 4+ inches of lift. I am debating between Tough Country 4 inch springs and DIY4X shackles unless some one can think of a better reason to go with ORD's. To me it seems like the same difference. I just like DIY4Xs shackles with the stars cut in them. If my 35s rub I plan on a little extra shackle or zero rates. My typical off roading consists of some weekend warrior jaunts down power lines or logging roads in NH, but nothing too extreme.

A lot of lift springs ride like a brick...

You could go with some 4" EZs in the front and a flip in the rear... That would give you a nice ride that would perform well off road and pretty simple to do if you have built stuff before...
