Ok I have seen pics of peoples Blazers with a shackle flip and hear it being mentioned. I don't really know a lot about it and what it does for the truck. Is it something worth doing?

nets four inches of lift by relocating the shackle in the rear leaf spring. its a very neat little device.

So then I could take out the blocks in the rear, flip the shackle, and then get smaller blocks to keep the 6" of lift? or something like that. Does it make the ride any smoother?

the following is written with a 4" lift in mind....

A shackle flip is essentially a 4" lift for the rear of your rig.

The lift is achieved by "flipping" the shackle over.

Advantages, generally the ride quality is better than a lift spring due to the fact that you retain your factory springs. If comparing to a lift block, the ride of course would be more comparable however, the shackle flip won't give you the axle wrap issues. I would say you'll still have a better ride due to most of the shackle flips on the market give you a more responsive shackle angle and a quicker responding suspension.

disadvantes, well I can't really think of any at the moment.

I was showing my dad the shackle flip trick, by gesticulating how the shackled is flipped over to push the frame up and then I could eliminate my blocks. He thought that with having the shackled flipped over it could cause lateral movement (left to right) issues. I don't think it's an issue, as no one has said anything negative and everyone does shackle flips. I think once he see how much beefier the aftermarket shackles are he will be enlightened. Unless his concern has some merit...

none whatsoever, the flip bracket is no different from stock just upside down. its stronger thant stock and stock shackles are even ok, i use mine and notice only a better ride and more positive power to the ground action

give kert a call at diy4x.com

Good guy, he'll explain what doesnt make sence...

If you need a little more than 4 inches you can use a little longer shackle too...
I'm using the DIY4x kit, with a longer shackle (also diy) and a zero rate add a leaf for about 6 inches all together.

Also using 56" springs :)
flexy baby flex!!!
