2 quick questions how many leafs do I need to run a 4" lift with a ord shackle flip and 56" springs?

And does the 26" section of the springs go in the front or back?

dont exactally understand your question

ord shackle flip is a 4 inch lift... I run the whole leaf pack, including the over load spring... and its right about 4-5 inch lift...

depends on whether you want to move your axle back or not.. If not, then run the 26" side towards the front...

if you are having driveshafts made, i would suggest turning them around backwards to get the 4" extra of wheelbase...

the "whole leaf pack" varies there are 6, 7, and 8 "leaf" packs available in 56's...and do I run the overload as well? I'm trying to have everything ready before I start the work

Thanks

Of course I haven't driven mine yet but on my k5 I put the 26" side toward the front and I'm using all the leafs that came on a 3/4 ton burb I think it's like 7 leafs. I figured I would start there and adjust for the ride I want.
On my 1 ton I removed 2 leafs plus the overload just so I wouldn't have to buy new U-bolts and have driven it around town a bit, it's just as rough riding as before.

and 9 and 11 I believe. I knwo my 88 Crew cab had 9 and I have seen packs with more than that.

the spring pack i have has 6 and no overload and is 2 1/4" thick. The spring pack on the blazer now has 5 and an overload and is 2 1/2" thick. I'm trying to determine if the 6 will be good or if I need to swap the overload too.

I have a DIY4X flip, 6" shackles, and a stock 4 leaf (plus overlaod) 56" pack with the short side forward and the overload flipped over. I got about 3" of lift that way. An easy inch got me to about 4" and moved the axle back 1 1/2".

Swap the over load, and put em in. you can always take it back out. just make sure you have your u bolts made, so you can remove/add leafs.. Get it where you want, then you can cut the excess off your u bolts. :D gl

What's a shackle plip?
:p:

What kind of rig is this for? Subs, K5s, longbeds, 1-tons, 1/2-tons...they all have different weights and are going to need different spring rates. If your shackle is almost vertical right now, flipping it over with no other modification is basically a 4" lift.

Basically, measure the vertical distance between the two eyes of your shackle before it's flipped. That will be how much lift you get. My K5 ran 5 leaves plus the overload stock. I don't remember what the angle was, but when I flipped it, it sat about the same as the front, which were about 4" lift springs.

Remember, if you remove leaves, you not only lose height from the arch of the spring, but also the height of the leaves themselves. Overloads are about 3/4" thick, so pulling an overload out is going to lower you 3/4" even if it wasn't helping your arch to begin with.

Swapping from a 52" to a 56" directly will actually lower the truck a little bit if the packs are the same thickness and spring rate. There is no special formula for how many leaves to run or how much lift a 56" or 52" from xx truck with give you. There are so many different GVWRs and weights between subs, K5s, and pickups, that it's just about impossible to simply say that "6 leaves from springs from xx truck will give you xx lift on xx other truck".

I am well aware of all of this thanks...I was aiming towards real world answers of what guys who have done it ended up with.

It is kind of implied, but to clarify - I also swapped the flip brackets from side to side to accomodate the 56" springs.
