ok idk if im right about this but longer shackles allow your suspension to flex more if this is true does it increase lift

No, longer shackles won't increase flex inherently. Adjusting the upper shackle mount and the shackle angle (and using a longer shackle with that) is probably what you're thinking of.

If you use a 1" longer shackle it will raise the truck by 1/2", shackles are a bad way to get more lift BTW.

Depends on the application...

Sometimes longer shackles are needed for spring clearance, to keep the springs from hitting the frame.

Sometimes a longer shackle is needed to account for the arch in a spring. If a spring has an arch to it, it will get longer (eye to eye) as it compresses and flattens out. That additional length has to go somewhere or something is gonna break (most likely the spring). A stock shackle may not have enough length to allow a custom lift spring to flatten out, this is where a longer shackle will be needed to allow more spring length when compressed.

i see i have an 82 chevy swb with a 6 in lift would it help anything if i put diy4x 6inch shackles on the front

What's on the front for shackles now? Are you having an issue with your current front shackles?

just stock ones not having any problems just like the way they look and wondered if it would help or hurt any thing

with 6 inch springs they are going to be real stiff to begin with.i wouldnt go over 1 inch longer than stockshackle unless you change your spring length or front spring hanger location.any longer than 1 inch over stock and the pinion will start turning torward the ground and throw off your caster and create a lot of steering issues.i have the 1 inch longer shackles and bigger spring bolt kit from o.r.d.it rides a little bit nicer and the spring can now flex better without bottoming out on the frame.
