Who has one? How well do they work?
I was thinking of one for when I run the batterys out on my 1 little an 2 big Mag-lite`s.

My buddy has one and it works good in a pinch! He also has a spin up one that works even better.

Do you know the brands? Im sure they vary greatly from one to another.

One of my buddys has a couple and they are actually pretty impressive. IIRC his grandma gave them to him for his birthday (or something like that) and they are bright, last a long time before you have to shake them again and haven't quit yet (and they've been used quite a bit). I'm almost positive these are the infomercial ones.

I have one I picked up from Wally World, and it has lasted for a couple years now. Lasts pretty decent between shakes, but now I pretty much just keep it in the Blazer for emergencies. I have a four D Maglite for the trailer.

All that jerkin' off sure did pay off for it when I got mine.

I prefer the wind-up design, less effort and less energy burned. Perfect for survival situations where such jerking motions may get you dehydrated even more.

I'd get the spin up light for a back up light. Primary light should remain a Maglite at the very least. They are of very good construction and pretty inexpensive.

I carry a Pentagon L2 HA almost all the time, good battery life, extremely bright, reasonably small and very lightweight. As far as Urban Survival goes.. a Glock, knife, and a good light are tops :wink1:

The crank light I have is from Garrity.

I`ll tell ya whats bright and lasts forever is the light I got in a Ryobi kit.
If I was going out at night Id take this. With both batterys it came with I could have light all night!!! I use the light to run down the batterys and it takes forever!!

The cheap ones are awful.

It's worth mentioning that the shelf life on alkaline batteries is great and LED bulbs make them run for a very long time.

i have a few windup dynamo lights and the lantern one is awesome. one crank, seriously, is all it takes to run that thing for many hours. i was really shocked when i saw that. i have a smaller flashlight style that won't hold a charge all that well no matter how much i crank it. both are garrity, iirc. weird.

walmart, academy, sports authority, etc. any place that has camping stuff usually has them. some automotive places, too.

I guess I've just never paid attention, I'll go shopping. THANKS!

Personally, id just covert your maglite to LED. They are just as bright if not brighter than conventional bulbs and last a long time.

I don't like the LED mag lights. It gives off a "fuzzy" light. I don't think they are as bright and they are hard to focus. But this was with a LED conversion kit. I never tried one that came with LEDs in it from the store.

I bought the one that was LED from the git go. I can narrow the beam and its pretty bright IMO> Better than bulbs. Even my Surefire that I use on my weapon light, ive converted it to LED and couldnt be more happier.

i have a shake light for emergencies, or to help find my 4cell mag that's somewhere in the truck. If i had to use the shake light for any trail repair, id be cussing the whole time, but it would work in a pinch.

I've got a cheap shake one.

I keep it in Big Ugly's glove box and as it has some room to rattle around I basically never have to shake it.
Bright beam but it's a damn narrow beam. Most cheap LED's don't have any sort of wide beam like you'd get with a conventional MagLite or flashlight.

Mine's in there for "oh crap, the other flashlight's batteries are dead" moments but I have a large D-cell MagLite in the truck for my primary low visibility needs.

Mine is converted through the replacement bulb, and is not as bright as it was with a conventional bulb. My dad has a three LED Maglite that came from the factory, and it is brighter than my 4d Maglite was with conventional, and it is rechargeable.
