1/2 ton status
It's about time I start a build for this. Been hesitant because I've been through so many K5s over the last few years, and my builds have drifted off into nothingness because of that. But it hit me this morning, and my vision for what I want is planned
82 Blazer 6.2/700r4/np208/3.08/33x95xr15

Once I get the rust issues fixed, it'm going to spray it flat OD green. All the lettering and any design will be flat black, as well as bumpers, any trim that may remain. Sorta a tribute to Nom Nom, my 84 CUCV. I'll be keeping the 6.2, there's nothing wrong with it, and does everything I want and I get great mpg. If and when it retires, perhaps replace it with a 6.5T. Thought of doing a 4BT, but I think I wanna keep this in a military aspect and keep the 6.x diesel theme. Planning on keeping my eye out for a parts 3/4 ton and steal the axles and strip whatever goodies I can. 35-38 tires.
I wanna keep the lift as minimal as possible. I highly enjoy my steering, and after this weekend of crawling with a bunch of Jeeps, who many were inexperienced off-roading, saw them multiple times back up into 3 point turns to go down trails I had no problems steering right into. So if I go with 4" I'd have to do a cross over. I may do 2" and a lot of fender trimming. I may do 4" and do less trimming. Haven't worked that out yet.
Keeping the 700r4, keeping the 208. Probably going with gears in the range of 4.56, depends on the size tire I run. Ox lockers cable is the plan for right now. Keep as much in the non-fancy, manual control as I can, in the theme of a military vehicle. Another plan is so grab a pickup tailgate, and pop that on whenever the topper is off for the season. Which so far has been April, and it'll be off until roughly October.
The doors I'll eventually replace with manuals one day. I'm gunna get a decal of SPC rank in the army and letter Sham Shield 1 around it. Another plan I had when I had Nom Nom was to put speakers in the back along the bed rails/side, with a speaker box made out of .50cal ammo cans.
And the Coup de grâce for the name, along that big beautiful baheemoth of a hood, "Jeep Recovery Vehicle" will be lettered on, backwards like an ambulance
So a visual for this rig when done, is a sorta a military recovery vehicle.
Though that finishing touch won't go on until I can put my money where my mouth is, since everyone I wheel with are Jeepsters
It'll take some time. But it'll get there.
