how does one join the sheetmetal gang? do i have to sneak up to a rusted-out beater in the middle of the night and bolt a brand new fender to it?

all my k5's body panels are on and straight, and i like to keep it that way.

along those lines, i was thinking a removeable partial exocage might be cool to protect rockers, fenders and bedsides. mount it up with hitch pins or something, to armor up when i "go into battle" but run it nekkid on the street for looks and less weight (my mpg is bad enough already). now, i just need a tubing bender...and a welder...and some tube...and ah dang :doah:.

Better have a word with the Colorado Crew:D

oh. i guess i'm a member and didn't even know it, then :thumb:. so, as gangmembers, do we use our stunning rigs to smuggle drugs or anything? if not, i guess i'll stop :haha:.

As Pauly pointed out, 'wheeling is a prerequisite to join the SheetMetal Gang.

And if you're thinking about body armor, put it on the truck before you go 'wheeling, not after you've dented the truck a few times. Then again, getting a few dents may poiint out exactly where you need body armor...:D

i have my share of rock chips along the rocker panels, but as anyone who's been to BMRA knows, there area lot of semi-steep climbs with a lot of loose rocks and dirt clumps to kick up, and i do enjoy that place. almost nailed a tree with the right front fender while midnight mudding closer to home, a few months ago. and in 2005, my passenger side mirror caught a tree (at bmra) on a trail that was barely comfortable for my friend's wrangler. taking my k5 on it wasn't the best idea. and, the general put decent skidplates on these trucks. i've tested mine on more than one occasion. the 4" lift i'll be installing soon will help keep them out of the action a little.

Sometimes , well , chit happens :wink1:

Here is how you become an ex-member. And no, the sliders/rear rocker guards/bumpers were not scratched at all. But they were the only thing-

I've been a member for a while now, say a few years. dents are not really my thing, I feel the sheetmetal is too nice to ruin on something as mundane as 4-wheeling so i keep mine away from it.

I cant think of even one truck or bazer that I have ever allowed to get a scratch or dent, hell even rock chip for that matter.

:wink1:

In my mind the whole SheetMetal Gang moniker is about wheelin' full body trucks, not so much having a completely straight body or anything like that. :dunno:

I sorta just made myself a member after going through a "relatively minor" restoration on the body of my truck. And I still wheel my truck, not as often as before or into as many tight trails with tree branches, but I still like to romp it once in a while as long as I don't scratch it :D

if pauly383 is still in after that pic, i'm overqualified :wink1:. even after friday's hail storm, my metal is 99% smooth.

how about an excessively large pic or two as an application for the gang?
