I am trying to install a new shift indicator on the steering column of a 1986 K5. I can get it in place but where does the wire loop with tab go once you have everything apart. The previous one was broken so I have no point of reference to start from other than the location..
Thanks
Peter

There is a folded metal clip at the end of the wire that is pushed on to the moving collar of the column. You should see some scratches on the edge where it was originally mounted.

What he said. I used a bit of silicon and duct tape (it gets covered up anyway) to secure it better because mine kept coming loose.
