shift into 4wd without stopping forward motion. anyone crazy enough to try it.

if you have a 205, and twin sticked it, try running in front wheel drive, you might have better luck running on ice. If you do get into trouble let off the gas and yank into 4 whl.

On snowy days, I leave the hubs locked and go between 2WD/4WD as I turn onto different road surfaces. No problem. I don't think it really matters whether you are in Nuetral or Drive, though. The important thing is just that the front and rear are going at the same speed.

Even the auto-hub trucks had stickers some years warning not to do it above 35mph or something like that, which implies that it's OK to do it below that speed.

It's also very helpful to go back to 2WD to make a tight turn, like getting into a parking space. People look at you funny when the rig is jerking and squealing trying to make a turn.

hell we have shifted from hi to low to double low and never slow down, its just a matter of syncing engine R's to ground speed for the gear you are going into.

Do it all the time with my NP203, and for your surprise, I've shifted from hi to lo as well with no ill effects so far. I shift the tranny (TH350) into N, and then slowly move the transfer to N and then to Hi (or Lo). It does grind a little but its very little and soft. Doesn't feel like I'm hurting anything (although maybe I am). Going from Hi to Hi Loc or Lo to Lo Loc (or back) is imperceptible. Sometimes it pops from Lo loc into Lo by itself. I realize when I start to get stuck and wonder why. At one time it was so stubborn and kept popping out so I had to keep my right foot on the lever and use my left foot on the gas pedal.

i've seen 2 come apart at highway speed, but they were in S-blazers, so probably a different transfer case altogether.
I shift from 2hi to 4hi in my 93 S-10 Blazer with an auto/231C case all the time on snowy roads here in Utah with no problems at all. Keep in mind this is usually below 30mph (if the roads are bad enough to need 4x4 it is usually pretty insane to be going any faster). Do the same thing with the 205 in my OR rig, just clutch it first and same thing with shifting it out. As stated in the other posts, low range is an completely different situation, full stop there.

I do it all the time but I have a NP241 Xfer. I can shift in and out of hi range 4x4 at most any speed.

Same here. I don't remember doing it on the highway, but I usually leave it in 2wd on trails and fire roads until I need 4wd and then just pull the lever.
