Ok trans people im getting my newly rebuilt 700r4 seviced next week. When I called today to let them know im going they asked me if I wanted to add a shift kit. When I got my transmission rebuilt they put red clutches, a hd steel band, and a corvette servo. So should I add the shift kit? What are the pros and cons on having a shift kit with the corvette servo ? (i think they dont drop the trans to put it in, they just drop the valve body)

Here's what really happens w/ shift kits.
When shifting from one gear to another most automatics will, for example, will go 1st slip, partially disengage 1st-partially engage 2nd, slip, more partially disengage 1st-more partially engage 2nd, slip, fully disengage 1st, fully engage 2nd.
In just about that order(it happens in about one, to two seconds max)

With a shift kit, depending on shift tightness, both disengage and engage of the two gears happen almost simultaneously. Just bang! This happens in the other gears also.
Plus, most will increase the line pressure to make sure the gears "grab".

IMO, the Corvette Servo should not be put in a truck trans unless the shift timing is altered at the same time. Changing the piston area changes the speed the servo moves, because you have to move a different amount of fluid to move the piston.

The 2-3 shift is an overlap between the band disengaging and the 3-4 clutch applying. If the servo is too fast (i.e. stock servo with mods that assume the larger one) you get "flare up". If the servo is too slow (i.e. Corvette servo without supporting mods) you get binding. A very brief overlap can "feel" like a firm shift, but it isn't doing the trans any favors. For the 1-2 and 3-4 shifts it doesn't matter because all you are doing is applying the band.

Those are really good kits. I have on in my Camaro and will have on in my K5 when I find a later model K-case to build for it.

They actually reprogram the transmission rather than just blocking off the accumulators like B&M kits do. You may want to look into the hard ring kit for it also, little protection never hurts.
