The spring that returns the shifter to a position closer to the dash is dead. Seems to be a common problem. Thoughts?

Shifter Lever Spring Issue...

it may not be dead, mine likes to slip up around the notch it sits against, causing only half of the spring to push the lever instead of the full pressure. I would pop the pin out of the lever and take a peek inside.

Floor shifter??? Lol... I wonder if the spring that's broken can be replaced? I have several parts-car non-tilt columns to choose from. I hope it installs from the outside...
