OK guys in the book it say to push down and turn counter clockwise, this isn't working . Its a Sm465 iv removed the boots and all that stuff but i can't get the stick out.

i know for my 465 there is a thin hemispherical cover that acts as kind of a retainer for the shifter. it's spring loaded so you have to push down on it and then turn it to the left probably 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn...it should pop up after that.
then grab the knob, pull up with a little wigglin and it should pop out.

may be too late now...but make sure your parking brake is engaged and/or you got the wheels chocked. im not sure where the tranny goes in the process of yanking the shifter.
Tranny should be in nuetral for this.
