I have a 12" suspension lift on my k5. I have run into a problem with the angle of the pinion and the integrated spring perch. I know that I am going to have to turn my c's. I need to figure the best way to fix the pinion angle though.

you can use a spherical cut washer, that's what I did...

Allows you to rotate your axle with the shims, and not bind the studs/bolts.

What's wrong with using shims?

It's a question of degrees (pun intended)

If he's trying to get the pinion pointed directly at the transfercase to improve his driveshaft angles, he's going to be WAY off on his caster numbers.

My guess is that he'll need to machine the housing AND cut-and-turn the C's to get everything sorted out properly.

:usaflag:

if you can get away with shimming it without your caster going crazy, then just be sure you by 3 shims. and so the spring plate and spring will sit flat with eachother, just put the 3rd shim the opposite way on top of the spring. i think some guys were talking about this not too long ago.

Did you machine down your washers or did you purchase them?

EDIT: by the way, I missed the part where he mentioned 12" springs so I realize shims will put a hurting on those spring plate studs. Sorry I didn't see this before.

I had something similar done to my Dana44hd, it is a ford unit. the guy at Rocky mountain axle just used a stationary belt sander and an engine hoist to hold the axle up he just ground off the "integrated perch" then he heated up the housing with a rosebud torch. and with it red hot he welded another perch to the housing at the correct angle
Cost = $150.00 six years ago. Plus another 150 to rotate the ends.
