I'm looking at buying a new ford SHO, but there aren't many around, so it looks like I'm going to have to have them ship one in.

the closest one that has the right color and package is in Littleton, CO. I'm in SLC, UT.

the dealer offered to "split the cost" of transporting the car here and claimed it was $1000 to ship it. of course I looked it up online, and the most expensive hauler I could find quoted $595.

sounds to me like he's inflating the number so that I'm paying all the cost, but think I'm splitting it with him.

anyone have any experience with this? I plan on telling him to kiss my ass tomorrow, but want to make sure I know wft I'm talking about just in case I missed something.

I'd give him a big ol' F OFF! It's "only" $3,000 for me to send my HUGE blazer from Hawaii all the way to Ohio. A state away shouldn't be more than $300-400 IMO.

Yeah that seams high.

Take a bus and drive it back. Not that far right? Just kidding, about the bus but if you could get a ride to Denver.

As mentioned, fly into DIA and drive back. Make sure ALL paperwork is done by then, nothing gives a dealer leverage like a customer that needs the vehicle to get home.

Contact the dealer that has the car you want. Talk to them. When I bought my wife's tahoe, she was set on a this color combo, I found one in IN, bought from that dealer, cost me 212.00 dollars for a one way back home ticket, for their driver to deliver. Never hurts to try that.

cool, thanks for the confirmation guys.
I'm sure I could buy a plane ticket for less and just go pick it up myself. I think the drive back would only be ~8 hours, so that's an option.

You got it, he's trying to make you happy while screwing you over.
I say talk to the dealer that has it and see how low you can negotiate him down on the price, tell him you'd be coming to pick it up so if he could take a bit off so you give him the business instead of any other dealer.
You might save enough to pay for your ticket and gas to come back home.
And just to make sure, check to see where else it is available, so they don't give you the oh well we are the only one that have it so this is our price.:waytogo:

Cost me $1400 to have my Blazer shipped, that included insurance...

Rip off. I've shipped five cars back and forth to Hawaii, none of them more than $1100
sounds like Z needs to talk to your guy!

their latest tactic is to give me more for my trade in to cover the cost of the shipping. I told him it didn't matter to me where they put the numbers so long as my out the door price didn't go up. we'll see if he can talk the used car manager into it.

His is going from Hawaii to Calofornia, mine is "oversized" and going all the way to Ohio:deal:

it's "only" $1,250 from Honolulu to San Diego for me... The rest is for trucking.

Hey man still the rest is a lot of money to OH.
Do you want me to give you a number for a guy, maybe he can get you a better deal from San Diego to OH?

I wouldn't mind checking into it for sure. Would there be any problems with him picking it up from the shipping yard though? When it's "delivered" the shipping company makes you sign off that it's in the same condition as you dropped it off in, so I'm just curious how that would work without the truck driver being owner/recipient:dunno:

It'd be great to save some dough though!!!

The guy is the one that took Ryoken's truck, he owns the truck and is a nice guy.
I would trust him enough to recomend him again.

Yeah sounds good to me. I was worded my other reply poorly. I was just curious if you thought the shipping company would release my blazer to somebody who wasn't me/my dad?

You can ask, but if you haven't finalized the contract yet, you can always put in the contract who the trucking company that is picking it up is.
