Just joined up and what a great site/forum! My father-in-law is giving me his 88 K5 to get back road worthy and to enjoy but they are located just south of Pueblo and I need to get it shipped via transport truck over here to SC. Im already learning ALOT about the process (shipping brokers etc) but my situation is a bit unique. Their ranch is about 5mi down a windy dirt road off the interstate and I will have to have a local tow co pick it up (non-runner) and take it to their facility awaiting pick-up from the transport truck (no transport truck will ever make it to the ranch for pick up). My problem is I will have to pay sorage fees each day until it is picked up. Alot of what Im reading is once you agree to a carrier (enter into contract) they can have several days to arrive and pick it up at anytime for delivery thus running up some storage fees. Just wondering what anyone elses experiences have been with the transport process/advice etc. Just waiting on the paperwork to show up in the mailbox and the process can begin.

I would think that you could arrange for the carrier to call when they are on their way to pick it up. Do they own the property near the interstate? It might make sense to get the truck closer to the road so it is available for pickup, and have someone out there when the carrier shows up. An alternate plan might be to have it towed to the home of a friend or neighbor. I take it the storage fee is pretty pricey?

Only called one place so far to see what they would charge ($60 a day :eek1:) Going to look into others once I have a carrier assigned to the pick up for a better rate (maybe let it sit on their lot free for a few days?).

Yeah, I dealt with this about six years ago when I moved from California to Texas. I shipped two cars, my Jimmy and my Nova. They charged an extra $100 on my Jimmy as they couldn't put a car underneath due to it's height and an extra $100 on the Nova as it wasn't running and had to have assistance unloading. Fortunately they stored the cars for free at their facility in Texas until I could pick them up.

I agree that you should see if your Father in Law has a friend that can hold it until the shipper arrives.

The shipper I dealt with told me the day and within a few hours the time of both pickup and drop off. They had both cars in Texas in less than 24 hours. I guess they drove straight through without stops.

What is your Father-in-Law's Blazer worth in non-running condition? If I remember right it was about a $1000 a car to ship. I am assuming his Blazer is nice enough in non-running condition to justify shipping.

^ I believe its worth saving. He bought it new in south CA and lived most of its life in NV. The body is rot free and dry which alone make it worth saving compared to whats around here. Its been sitting for a few years has a 4" lift and aftermarket alum wheels installed, told the motor/trans are good has a power steering pump leak and diff covers leak (im assuming empty by now), and needs a new heater core. I can handle most of the above I believe and just wrapped up my VW project so looking for something to wrench on this winter :waytogo:. If I can get a heads up a day before the pick-up from the tow yard Im OK with that. I'll just have it picked up the day before. Once it gets here I'll be able to give it a good inspection.

Edit...... I am assuming Pueblo Colorado. If not, disregard.

Get a hold of 70jimmy. He lives and works in Pueblo. May have some ideas for you.

When do you plan to do this? If the timing is right and you can wait a little while, I will have my land and could run and get it. Store it until they can pick it up. Pay my fuel and little bit more, would be no problem.

Yes, Pueblo CO (actually closer to Colorado City). Hoping to get it on the road in the next 2-3 weeks.

I shipped a Blazer from las Vegas to San Antonio about 8 years ago. Best deal I could find was Dependable Auto Shippers. It was about $600 and took almost a month. Once they load a vehicle, it rides till they have a reason to be where you want it. Mine went from Vegas to El Paso, then Long Beach, then Dallas, then back to Long Beach, finally making it to San Antonio 29 days from shipping. They told me two weeks when I hired them. There are better shippers, do a search on CK5 and see what turns up.
