I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to put this, so if it's not I'm happy to delete/move it.

There's an engine I would like to buy out in Yucca Valley, CA that I am unable to pick up due to work/school and bad head gaskets on the truck :doah: For those of you who have experience with shipping engines, who do you usually use? I've been looking at online quotes and they all seem to be outrageously high (I don't think paying $800 to ship a $175 engine makes sense). Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

What kind of special engine is it that you can't find one a little closer to home?

Seems like any engine that's $175 should be pretty plentiful, unless it's just a crazy good deal.

There is a hauling section of the forum, if you post there you might find someone who's going to be driving that route anyway and get a better deal.

Bigred, it's an Olds 5.7 diesel and for whatever reason they don't seem to exist in my part of the country outside of my own car. I went to do an injector change on it last weekend and one of the injectors had been forced in so when I took it out it took all the threads with it and it turned out the injector seat had been pretty messed up in the head. This engine is not much more than the heads I've found for sale, and once gaskets, bolts, etc are factored in, I'm money ahead to just swap the engine instead of replacing the head right now. I'd forgotten about the hauling section, I'll post up there too.

British Slave, thanks for the link, that's much more affordable than what I'd found.
