shock advice

Just search by the amount of travel you need. You don't want the light valving unless you will run duals. So you'll want the medium since I've never seen "heavy" available. Or use a site like Summit or 4WPW to get the part number or download the Bilstein catalog. Then type that part number in at AJUSA.

Honestly, if you're going to buy decent shocks, you should really think about extended shock towers for the front. The Ford towers are cheap and the job doesn't take too long. Then you can probably run a 12" travel shock at all 4 corners.

Wow, I thought you were AJMBLAZER there for a second. I was waiting for him to show up and post that.

Haha he is the preacher of them lol. Im just passing the word on lol. My blazer really rides pretty decent at the dunes for an old straight axle stock leaf sprung rig. But i want alcans up front with 7100s so it really feels smooth

No, travel would be the amount the axle moves up and down. You dont want your shocks to be fully extended or fully stuffed before your axle runs out of travel because it will kill them quick. You want some room left on the shock for the up travel, and down travel. You can limit axle travel with bumpstops, or limit straps if need be (not really needed with leaf springs). And making different shock towers and shock mounts on the axle can play alot with what travel shocks you need.

when you say travel do you mean the amount of space from tire to inner fender?
I mean the total distance the shock can travel - the difference between its fully extended length and its fully collapsed length.

If you want an easy way to check measure from shock mount on your axle to the shock mount on the frame. Find a shock that will sit about halfway when sitting. Say as an example.... (not going off any real measurements just making this up) your distance is 18" find a shock that compressed is like 12" and extended is 24" that gives you 6" each way for a total of 12" of travel shock. Now if your seriously wheeling your going to want to flex out your suspension with no shocks on, get a measurement of fully stuffed, and fully extended, then find a shock that will not bottom out on stuff, or get pulled on when the axle is all the way down....
