Shock hoops

Has anyone ever done a setup like this on a square body?

How would it work? I would assume you would have to have a long bump stop so you don't smash the shocks. I would like to do some kind of extended shock mount. My biggest thing is I don't want to cut the fender wells out to keep the engine clean.
 
Rancho made a triple hoop back in the day in which it ran 2 shocks upright like in your pic and the 3rd shock was like the angle where the factory shock is mounted.

I have a pair of the Rancho hoops in the shop. Haven't found anymore for sale anywhere yet and these are specifically for the '67-'87 trucks.
 
I will look around online to see if there are any before I snap a shot or two of mine.

Rancho hoops weren't dirt cheap back in the day as they ran close to $400 for the whole kit.

I'd like to find someone to copy mine and put them out into production but without the hassles of Rancho, etc. Wonder if Kert could do it? :thinking:
 
I was thinking the same thing if Kert could come up with something.

I'm doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion and looking at shock mounting setups. I'm most likely going to run bilstein 5125's. I'm trying to make this truck do everything build. I have a stiff set of springs in the back for towing and I want to keep them with using a shackle flip rear.


I'll fire up the old 3d modeling program and create something, give me a bit and I'll show you what I'm envisioning.
 
I think these Rancho hoops look beefier than those above pics. Just they way they're designed and fabbed, they appear to be stronger.

I remember 4WOR building Mighty Rat back in the 80's where they used the Rancho hoops and made them even more bulletproof by adding a crossover bar that was removable, too. It simply mounted at the top of one hoop and looped over the engine to the other sides hoop top to reinforce both hoops as one unit. This was a stout setup.
 
Only thing about that is I don't know how to weld so I would have to pay someone and I want to keep my inner fenders intact.
 
I found these pics of the Rancho hoop mounted on a Dodge. Even though its the wrong truck, its the correct brackets as it was a project for some other site. These are what mine look like:

Oh man those are pretty sweet they look like they worked well. Now only If I could find something.
 
Got a few custom jobs to knock off the schedule and who knows. I have a blazer I might be able to figure up something on it.
 
Kert, I can measure my hoops if you need ideas if you want to make them like the Rancho hoops.
 
I would like something bolt on since my welding skills suck. Something like the example in post #3 would allow for an option to add your adjustable bump stops.
