I just did a shackle drop and got about 3 ½ inches of lift using stock 52” springs. I’m planning on running Pro Comp shocks with 15 inch travel. I need pictures of rear shock mount setups for long travel shocks.

Thanks

I did it that way because I wanted the shocks mounted vertically so they are more effective.

here's how i mounted mine:

I welded a bar between the frame, welded 2 tabs onto it and drilled them out for the shocks.

Brian,

I like how you used a set of front spring hangers for the shackle flip, but I don't like the space between the angle & the frame. Is there any reason for the gap? You could use a bigger angle, (3x3x1/4), or a tube cut in half across the diagonal [/] to get a couple more bolts in there.

Also, did you happen to weld a tab to the front of the tube as well for the shock mount? I know it's just a shock mount, but I'm a believer in "over-built never killed anybody".

Just curious,
Buddy

scott, why didn't you mount the end of the shock closer to your axle tube and save some space in the tub? look like you could have mounted the end about 4" lower and still be on top of the axle.

The gap between the angle iron and spring hanger is caused by a case of laziness, i suppose. It used to be flush with the frame, then i relocated the hangers and moved them down a tad, and never re-drilled the support. Plus, there are rivets on the under-side of the frame that I need to grind off in order for it to be flush. Some larger angle iron probably would be better, I agree.

I'm not sure what you mean by "a tab to the front of the tube" though.

Brian, Will the top shock mount you did work with the gas tank in the stock location?

Without blatantly lying to you, I can't honestly answer that question.

I removed both gas tanks from the underside, and mounted one sideways against the front of the bed, to get it out of rocks or other gas-tank-protruding objects :)

I was worried about getting into the spring pack the shock body would have been really close, especially on compression. Where it is now there is only a little more than 1/2" between the shocks and the fender well, so I'm not sure there would have been room there either. I decided to just go off the top of the springs because either way I was going to be cutting holes in the floor, and this was the easiest and clearest of obstructions. I probably spend a month trying to decide how I was going to do it.

We'll be mounting the same shocks in Dad's K5, fred2mihi, and I may try something different with his.

I'm talking about the upper mount for the shocks. Do you have mounted in double shear
_____
| ( ) |
tab eye tab

or single shear?
_____
| ( )
tab eye

Hope that makes sense.

Later,
Buddy

OHH!!! I see what you're saying! Yes, there is a tab on either side of the shock... as in:
____________

Sorry bout that, I don't do well without pictures ;)

edit:
I suppose in my first post I should have said "I welded 4 tabs to the bar between the frame".
