Hey guys. How are you mounting shocks for the rear when using a shackle flip and 56" rears? i think I can get away with the stock mounts on the frame but what are you using down at the axle.

I'm assuming you mean with the 56's flipped backwards so it extends the wheelbase 4", if you don't flip them there would be no issue. Anyway, I'm curious to see what people did to because I have a set of 56's sitting the garage that I plan to install backwards for the 4" stretch this fall.

Yeah I think thats what I did. I got the DIY4x hangers on backwards. I really think it will work with the length, I just am really wondering about what type of mount to use on the axle. the frame mount is parallel to the axle, does the axle mount need to be perpendicular to the axle. Sorry if thats confusing

You can cut the factory ones off & move them on the axle to where you need them. Or you could make some new ones out of plate steel.

I am running 56's backwards & usings Kert's inboard kit. I just put the shock mount in front of the axle instead of behind.

I thought about kerts kit but didn't wanna spend the money. Whats wrong with the factory frame mounts? I dont seem to have much up travel.

Yeah it all depends on how much travel you have. With my 56's it looks like I am going to have 4-5" of uptravel, and a ton of droop.

You could get away with the stock mounts if the shocks were short enough, but you just want to make sure you have enough shock to droop all the way out.

I bought the 15" travel pro-comps and just eye balling it I wouldn't have much shock left for uptravel if I used the factory mounts. I may go up through the bed and just build a hoop on each side behind my seat.

I don't really wan't to inboard the shocks due to the roll control stability you lose. These springs are really soft and having driven it without shocks I am going to need some roll stability as i still drive on the street some.

I would think you could use the stock style mounts on the axle just fine. The type of mount shouldn't make much difference.

This is what Im talking about. If both mounts were parallel to the axle wouldn't the bushings on the shocks bind on the bolts at droop. Sorry for the crude drawing.

My axle is pushed back with 56s and I use the factory shock mounts at the frame for now. On the axle I used Kerts shock tabs becasue my stock mounts were already removed when I got the axle. They work fine but I will be going with an inboard kit of some kind or I will make it myself.

But to answer your question you can use the stock shock mounts on both the frame and axle but will not be ideal since the shocks will be at different angles in relation to axle centerline.

I will see if I can find some pics.

A problem I had was the uneven shock lenths of the axle being farther back and the shock body hitting the frame on compession becouse the movement didnt match the gruve in the frame.
Does that make sence?

yeah. I didn't think about the axle being farther back until this morning when I looked at it. What a pain in the arse.

That's what I did. Article here: http://coloradok5.com/custom-doetsch-tech-shock-install.shtml

I am going to 56" rears with shackle flip swapped side to side in the near future. I plan to go long side back to keep about the same WB. I am running Kert's inboarding kit and Ruff Stuff lower mounts. I think it should work out pretty good. Details here.
