ok so I’m getting to the point where I’m gonna be mounting the shocks , should I mount them in the center of the stroke with all weight on the axels or favor up or down ?

My setup is totally junkyard and craigslist scores but here is what I just found with my k5. I have some 90's 4" skyjacker softride pickup springs with 1 leaf removed on the rear. I was trying to figure the same thing out for shock travel. I have a set of 12" travel bilstein 7112's for my fronts. I figured I would get about 4" up travel and the rest for droop. When I flexed it out I was able to get 6" up travel easy. More than I thought. The front springs were starting to invert at full stuff. I think I will limit up travel to right when the springs go flat with a bump stop. So my guess was way off and I would suggest finding something to drive 1 tire up on and see what your suspension is actually capable of. I was driving up one ramp of a deckover trailer to figure my flex out. It was really surprising how much flex I could get with leaves and no shocks on. I thought 12" travel was more than I needed But I will end up using it all.

Thanks I’ll hold off then sounds like you want find out how much up travel you have and then go from there ?

That's where I would start. Up travel is where you are going to find interference issues. The steering linkages and tires into bodywork will let you know where to limit your up travel. Once you have figured that out you can figure out how to mount your shocks to use the available shock length. Every setup is going to be different unless you are stock height and stock mounting points.

It’s a pita but the correct way is to take leaf pack apart, bottom it out and check for interference, if happy mount bump stops then mount shocks bottomed out. Leave 1/4 inch for the just in case it goes further than it should. Then you should be good!

Cool thanks guys I’ve been busting my ass on this rig just don’t want any unnecessary mistakes i appreciate the feedback .

If the packs are new it’s not really a pain. Take the pin out pull all but the main, put a 2x4 or piece of wood in place of other leafs. Then cycle
