D70 rear, DIY4X shackle flip, stock 52's, ORD zero rates, axle moved back 1 inch. D60 front, 5.5inch lift skyjacker springs. This truck will not see a lot of wheeling, but if it does i want it to perform better than stock. I doubt i ever make it to MOAB so I am not preparing this rig for that, but like i said, I want it to perform well.

All shock mounting tabs have been removed from both axles. Do i go back with stock tabs and use ORD for suggested shock lengths to mount in the stock upper locations? I have read a lot of posts about the ford towers too. Does anyone know if the 10 degree mounts that ruffstuff sells are the same degree as factory mounts? I know I sound like a dumb@22 and ive been hanging out here for 20 years, but this is a first for me.

I'm no help, I'm just here to say I'm in a similar spot but haven't totally decided on what to do with my front shocks yet. I keep telling myself to make time to call ORD and ask Stephen's opinion on shock mounting (ie; order shocks and mount to fit or add the mounts I'm thinking about and give him dims). I really want to keep mine simple and not get involved with shock hoops or similar.

For the rear I'm going with an inboarding crossmember because one of my frame holes is boogered up.

are you building the crossmember for the rear for inboarding?

The Ford towers are typically used on the front.

The best control of the axle is keeping the shock as close as possible, in other words, I wouldn't do the inboard mounts. I have heard that there can be an increase in body roll with that, as well as decreased axle control.
I used factory locations on the frame with ORD braces. Then I rotated the axle mounts upwards for more clearance which only gave me room for an 11" travel shock. My axle is moved rearward 1", so it still works decently, but more vertical oriented shocks would be better.

The factory locations on the frame can be a challenge for the exhaust on the driver side though.

This is dumb. Don’t do this. It’s like I don’t even have them. The more vertical the better.

I have an old Missouri Offroad Outfitters crossmember that I'll probably use, it's pretty heavy duty so I think the frame will benefit from it. I would much rather install the shocks outside the frame like OE but my one shock hole is jacked up and the opposite bracket is gone. My plan is to mount the rear shocks as vertical as possible, I think I can mount them at around 20*.

I haven't found anyone that builds alternative (and affordable) brackets for the outside of the frame (and I suck at welding).

For the front mounts, I'll either use a stock quad shock bracket or maybe the Ford brackets, it all depends on info from a future conversation with ORD (I need to get some approximate travel measurements).

You can fill in the holes with a mig welder and start over if the holes are messed up

I would go with ford shock towers in the back Make your shocks around 15° vertical. Tabs on the top of the axle housing as far as possible toward the brake back plate. Same in the front but use a loop

I got some from a guy on FB that fabricates nice pieces but a little spendy. His are mounted outboard of the rails. Comes with upper and lower mounts of which the lowers need to be burned in on the axle tubing. Uppers require drilling holes. Goes by McCroder Built and Bradley Jensen. Both are two profiles on FB.

Really cool stuff but boy are they expensive.
