Shock recommendations

The 'burb currently has OLD (20 year?) Rancho's on it that are pretty much gone. So I am shopping for new shocks, but as I am getting older, 42 now, I like a smooth ride for regular driving and the ability to stiffen up the truck when we are offroad / hauling our prospecting equipment out in the desert.

Any insight or experiences would be appreciated.

I have looked at Bilstein 5100's and Rancho RS9000XL.

BTW the burb has 4" of all leaf lift and ORD H.D. front shackles that are 1/2". longer than stock. The current shocks sit at 17.5 inches in the front center eye to center eye and the rear at 21" center eye to center eye on level ground

I went from 5100's to Rancho 9000xls on my K5 and I wish I hadn't. The 9000xl's are nice in that you can stiffen them up but the 5100's just rode so much better so I imagine the 5160's would be even better.

When I have the chance I am definitely switching back.

I don't know why you'd want a shock with an adjustment knob, when you can have a shock that adjusts automatically.

Looking at the 5160, it seems to come in 3 different valving options:

170/60
255/70
360/80

I am sure the 170/60 would be way too soft for the 'burb.

So, until I can talk to a Bilstein tech today or Monday, what do you guys think?

Normal driving is just that, but when out in the desert we will have 300+ lbs. of gear going in and probably 600-700 lbs. coming back.

Pulled the trigger on the Rancho 9000XL's. With price matching and Rancho's SHOCKTOBER fest (buy 3 get 1 free) going on, I have $304.08 in my new shocks.
