I have a 6in lift on my K5 – skyjacker soft ride springs. However, my truck is anything but “soft” I also have new Skyjacker Nitro 8000 shocks. What would be a good choice for some softer shocks? Part numbers or link if you have them….

a 3" lift......

shocks won't change the spring rate and 6" lift springs don't flex very well. a shocks job is to keep the tires on the ground.

how are you using this truck?

set of Alcans or EZ rides and Bilsteins at the corners...

Get a pair of Bilstiens 5150s. They Will make a world difference!!!

I couldn't agree more with both of these, I have 6" Tuff country ez rides and it used to ride super stiff, I bought a set of Bilsteins 5100s and I am still questioning myself as to why i didnt do it sooner. :waytogo:

Im running 5150s and some 2" Rough Country springs. I couldnt be more happier. No bouncing or jarring going over speed bumps and the ride around town is nice. I just recently removed the sway bar. this will make a diff. in your ride quality as well. Other things to consider is greaseable shackle bolts. This helps with the ride as well.

third on the bilsteins as the first step.

They work very well. IMHO it doesn't really make the ride "softer" just better more controlled. Which translates to more comfortable

i've never run Bilsteins before, but these are what i'm going to be using this time because i've never been very satisfied with the "kit" shocks. big difference is that i'm only going to lift 2 or 3 inches, not positive on the springs yet though (TC's or Alcans)........

seriously, call Bilstein and ask a tech about the valving options that would work for you. you're not racing so i don't think you need any remote reservoir shocks, but a good single tube design like the 5100. BE5-6248-H5 front and BE5-6249-H5 for the rear seems to be the one........

I'm running stock suspension with Munroe gas shocks and I'm getting more and more upset with the ride.. thinking of doing something about it this summer

Pretty bad when you can barely drink a cup of coffee on the highway on the way to work.. :doah: Yea, the trans-canada highway is getting pretty rough in this area

those ford shocks look interesting. Kinda confussing - what is the part number for the front and rear. Will these also work with a 6in lift?

bumping this old thread, so i read that Munroe are not very good for a softer ride, and thats just what i want, i cant afford more than probably 25$-30$ per shock, what would the best option be for a soft ride for stock height suspension?

My truck rides really ruff i feel all bumps, im guessing shocks are the first thing i should replace.

thanks for any assistance!

maybe look up the shocks for your truck in Monroe, but see if you can get different valving. You might look into what Monroe offers for the K30 trucks, since they are higher gvw, the valving might be different. not sure

Try the Rough Country Nitro 9000's. Nitrogen charged monotubes. Good stuff.

Yup. Got mine for $35 each i beleive. Got a thread on here somwhere about what ones you want per what lift or lack there of that you have on your rig.

My skyjackers are stiff as hell... But the bilstein a helped a lot.

I went from "kit" shocks to 5150s and noticed a big improvement in ride. Then when I went from "EZ ride" springs to soft ones the 5150s worked even better. Lift kit manufacturers lie. How can a spring be "soft ride" and also give exactly 6" of lift when the axle weight is like +/-400lbs between applications?

Stiff springs=harsh ride unless they are well loaded. Wornout springs=harsh ride if they are hitting the bumpstps, which is far more likely in the front than the rear. Remember, springs are what resist compression, minimally do most shocks help in this regard (I think most recommended for trucks are like 30/70 compression/rebound). This is why unloaded 3/4 and 1 ton trucks ride so rough, at least older ones like ours.

Done some experimenting on my own, tire pressure and making sure the bumpstops weren't hitting made a world of difference. Reducing the spring rate in the rear helped, but not nearly as much as the first two.

Spring change will alter harshness of the ride a lot more than changing the shocks will. Adjust your tire pressure too, grease those bushings! When I replaced my old shocks I drove around a little bit without shocks at all and the ride was about the same. I have tuff country springs, and they are pretty smooth. You can always get some stock springs and get a shackle flip and save some money. You can always take out a leaf from the springs to make them softer.
