Shocks - well....

great thread jms.....i'm just starting to do my search for the shocks that i need, this is a lot of info for me. Bill

The reason this has been sorta hush-hush is that I think he doesn't really look forward to me trying to learn how to re-valve a shock at his shop...:eek1: :D

ha ha. same reason i keep telling my friend the cam in his bike is fine...he just needs to learn how to ride in it's powerband....

i'm snoopin around the Bilsteins most. many more options than when i built my last truck 15+years ago.
i have a little bit different requirements than most on this board i think. my truck is going to be a DD and work truck(tool carrier) mostly with camping and wheelin when i can get it in. driving in NYC is like the Rubicon sometimes though with potholes the size of schoolbuses and frikkin speed bumps everywhere you look. i want to build a soft and compliant suspension, good geometry with good "off the shelf" shocks. i certainly don't think i need adjustable reservoir Fox units for what i'm doin. the rear spring pack has been rebuilt a "tad" heavier than stock just prior to me getting her...i'd like to reuse it if can, but i want the front and back to be reasonable equal in spring rates though. i seriously think i'll be buying the ORD 3" "kit' with EZ's..........we'll see. thanks, Bill

Disclaimer: my truck, my preferences on ride quality, my notion on how the truck should perform.

What about just adding a cheapy shock alongside your existing front shock? Sure it will add to compression dampening as well, but it may be a worth while trade off if it gets rid of the bounce???

You're not supposed to do quad shocks...

Well. It's been ProComp ES3000 for a year now. A bit better than the 5125s, not what I want but a reasonable stopgap. Thought about custom shock mounts, and then 7100s, or some other adjustable shock, don't have the time etc.

Got the factory front brackets for the quad shock setup, originally with the intent to gain enough room to run a 7100 shortbody (inspiration courtesy of ccarley). When I installed the brackets, and looked at those 5125s on the garage floor, I realized that the 10" travel 5125 that was originally in the rear would fit in the new location... a couple bolts later, and the front has now 4 5125s - the 8.6" in the regular location, and the 10" in the aux location. Shock body clears spring plate/u-bolt; should be sufficient uptravel with the bump stop in place (about 2" above the spring plate). We'll see how long the lower shock mounts hold. By the numbers, valving is 255/70 each... road ride is a bit firmer but not objectionable.

I took the truck out in the desert yesterday, and this is a significant improvement :waytogo:. It keeps the front on the ground in the whoop-de-doos, even while the rear is trying to leave the planet :D. Rear shocks are simple ProComp ES3000; gotta find a way to calm the rear axle down now. Still not sure if this is the final solution, but it's certainly better than the single 5125 or ES3000, and I liked the $$ aspects of this as well.

Just throw some triple bypasses on it :haha:

Exactly what I've been preaching for the last decade!:waytogo:

I did the same dual 5125s on my hd straight axle swap, still has me thinking what a set of single reservoirs would be like. The 5125s ride decent but im thinking the 5150s might be good too or maybe even better.
