So..... what is everyone running for shocks ? And what kinda performance/ ride are you getting from them ?

Dual Pro-Comp ES9000's all around. Very firm, not a Caddy ride. I like it this way because it handles real good on the road in turns (never liked the cushy ride on some vehicles).

Rancho's....my rig doesn't ride soft. You hit a bump you feel it. But I like it that way. I like to know my shocks do their job and well! They are awesome if you ask me!

Hey Tori, Do you have a dual shock setup? I run 6 Procomp 3000's and I like them. I also heard that Rancho makes Procomps.. All your paying for is tha name. If you buy procomps get them with the red boots. And don't put on the procomp stckers. They look the exact same. I didn't do that. I bought the pretty blue boots. I told my wife they were to match here eyes. So she wouldn't get has mad at me spending the money on them. Then she told me her eyes weren't blue........Boy was I in trouble then.........LOL
 
Yes, i do have the dual shock set up. I had all four shocks on at first (Rancho 5000) but the long shock was too short and was fully extended with the truck just sitting on the ground, so i took the long ones off. It could use a bit more control i think, but i dont want it rigid either.
Anyone out there using a gas charged shock ?

The guys up at 4wpw said you shouldn't use gas shocks for wheelin. I don't now wy. I think they will get to hot. Are your dual shock setup in the frint OEM or after market???
 
I'm running RS5000's currently and hate them. They aren't bad for slow speeds, but they let me know I'm on washboards. Going to change over to Doetsch Tech Pre-runners soon, just as soon as I get the new front mounts fabbed.

Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks. Expensive, but GREAT. I really like them, they have that firmness I wanted for offroad without being stiff. Great for on-road too. I can take curves fast with my Blazer.

How much do shocks influince the ride over wash-board roads? I think all solid axle trucks ride ruff over washboards

. If someone has a set of those manualy adj shocks, do a little test for us. run it over some different tarrain and differnt settings and let us know what you think. I would be interesred in the findings.

I have Rancho 5000's on mine. I HATE THEM! Way to stiff. I plan on going to Bilstien's as soon as I can afford them (or the Edelbrock's if I can't get the right size).

I just put Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks on mine and they are great! Truck rides almost carlike now, and handles better in the turns. When I put them on I got rid of the factory dual shocks up front and I think that helped make a big difference too. With the dual shocks the front was real stiff, and I could feel every pebble in the road like it was a boulder.

Pricey shocks but well worth it, IMO.
 
If you think Rancho 5000's are stiff... then you aren't gonna like the Blistiens most likely... most of their styles are a bit stiffer.

Here's just my $.02 worth... I have Rancho 5000's now... they suck... Heard 9000's are nice... but man not sure if I like the idea of getting out and chaging the setting... For the guys that have them... you turn a nut or what to adjust them?

I'm looking at the Trailmaster SSV's (shop I'm getting my lift from swears by them), the new BDS shocks if I can ever get info, or Blistiens.

How much do shocks influince the ride over wash-board roads?

ALOT!!!! The shock controls the spring action, then with the movement of the piston, the shock heats up and there is fade.

Here's an example; take your truck and run it in some good 2-3 foot whoops. Maybe 10-15 mph and even then the ride will be rough and the shocks will fade. Take a Class 8 truck (frame based almost unlimited full size) and that truck can run the same whoops 50-60 mph all day and the ride is Cadililac smooth.
That's why I'm going to spend about $2500 on my suspension. I won't reach 50-60 mph in the same stuff, but I will be able to get about 30-40 probably.

I have Rancho 9000s on the front, and Pro Comp 3000s on the rear. Re: changing the setting on the 9000s, there is a little knob on the shock, all you do is turn it with your fingers - very easy! I normally have them on the "3" setting (1-5 available), anything higher than that is too hard, and when I go off road, i bump them down to "1" as I'm taking off my swaybar links...

I am happy with the 9000s, the 3000s in the rear are just there because I need shocks, nothing special! They are the longest Pro Comps they make...
 
I was reading somewhere that there is like 3 or 4 manufactures that make all the brands of the shocks out there. So several types are made by the same people. So two different brand shocks might be exactly same except for the names......I'd check into who makes what. You might be shovling out bucks for a shock brand name when you can get the same shock for less with a different name stamped on it even though they are EXACTLY the same......

I have RS9000's and love them!!!!!! Adjusting is easy, can do all of them in under a minute, but only mess with the rea ones, for towing, etc. They are expensive, but worth it.

Shocks have alot to do with how well your rig will take washboards. A few years ago, one of the magazines (Off-Road I think) did a test on it, with Bilstein and Doetsch Tech running a close tie for washboard performance
