i got some new shocks and a highlift for christmas, great! can i jack up the front end using the bumper as a lift point with the highlift? if not what can i use to jack up the front end? the bumper is stock...

I wouldn't. Get a floor jack.

and jack it from where? 6" of lift and 37"s dont make that within range without stacking cinderblock or wood which i hate doing.

safety aspect you are better off using a floor jack and wood blocks than a hi-lift. dont get me wrong ive used them and they can be helpful. but they aint safe.

And don't knock your teeth out with the hi-lift. Those things can be dangerous when they have weight on them.

cribbing = wood blocks to put under the jack. should work fine just make sure its stable

please dont do this on a stock bumper.. it will fold in half... with you under it...

thats what i figured, it wouldn't be a great idea, but i didn't want to be afraid to use it if i could have...what point would be best to jack the front up using a highlift

I've always thought a high lift was a emergency situation kinda thing...

Last time i used mine was on my xj... buried in sand...

It worked great to slowly lift each corner up....

It hooked onto my tow hooks on the front and rear bumpers perfectly...


I'd say you need an aftermarket bumper to better use it...
Just dont let it be the only thing holding your truck up... it will slip out and hurt you... either squash you , or hit you on the way out...

You could use the high-lift under a winch plate as well.

I wouldn't ever put it under a stock front bumper.

i have used the stock bumper to lift with a hi-lift and it didnt hurt the bumper but it does move around.

ill use it as a secondary supprt, and i'll do it right by where the bumper mounts mount to the frame.

Every time you use a hi-lift jack, you have to wedge it so it wont slide off the truck and compensate its position on the ground so the jack is completly straight once weight is on it, a situation that is pretty hard to do so its not recommended on a stock front bumper, with nothing stopping it from sliding. Any time you use your hi-lift jack it should be an EMERGENCY I cant find/use any other jack situation, and i'd still never get under there period. Lowering can be scary as well so be careful.

and when you build your cribbing, dont use cinderblocks, they wern't designed to hold weight like that.
