Jess, I have some shelving that is attached to the walls...keeps them from falling over.
Agreed on the compressor, as said make sure the lines are leak free to keep it from running.
I like to have a dirty part of the shop and a clean part of the shop...for me the stall with the shop stuff in it is the dirty side....the Vette stall is the clean side that I use for painting and other clean stuff.
I have my ladders hanging from the ceiling...but my trusses are only 8.5' from the floor too...gets em out of the way though.
I would put up shelves above the benches and storage below for bigger items. Doors help keep the debris out of them as well.
Do you have plans for heat/phone/water out there?

Just passed inspection today. Gonna heat with wood next year, and add electrical
Started on shelving yesterday. Got the excess wood up and out of the way.

Metal rack is nice to have. I just bent 2 pieces of 1.75 180 or so cut them off welded some 1/4 to them and screwed them into the studs. The have held more than 20 sticks of 1.75 before and currently have about 18 sticks on em and haven't budged which actually kind of surprised me.

Have you not trenched electrical out to it yet?
Something I neglected to mention is that I ran combined coax/cat5 cable out from the house when I did the electrical. Obviously wireless is pretty popular, but metal walls hinder signals. Coax allows TV/internet (if you are lucky enough to have cable internet in your area) and the Cat5 could be used for data if needed, or you could always run a land line off it I suppose.
I hate digging, but since I had to run electrical, I figured I might as well run anything else I'd have to bury (including a water line) even if I had no intention of using it anytime in the near future. Ended up using the coax already.
Were I to do it again, probably would try to run some sort of conduit that would allow pull-through in the future if needed. Trenching 18+" in the "soil" up here is not what I consider fun.

I haven't trenched for electrical that's next year. The run from the house to the barn is short and I'll rent a trencher. I actually get wifi from the house in the barn. I may run coax out but no need for anything else. The shop is for working on things not watching tv. I've gotten through this far by listening to football and hockey on the radio and streaming from spotify for music so I'll manage. If it's that important I'll walk the 50 feet from the barn to the house.
floor space is IT Jess....I have so much crammed into my shop/storage building its hard to move around right now...you know that one "working" stall I have, now has the Maiden in there, that roll around workbench, and the Cummins/trans combo behind it....I really need more storage, but figure it will cost about 40K for my next shop.
Yup getting more stuff up 6-8 feet really frees up space. I'm gonna leave the back middle section of the barn open for the wood burner. I maybe able to heat it with a stove this year. Craigslist has some good deals on the triple wall stainless.
Once I get the bench in, I am going to build small shelves over that. It's nice having all the extra building material. I really like how everything is turning out. Glad I'm taking my time to move in.

I was planning on just doing foam board on the top of the trusses. My brother gave me a 150k btu roof hanging Nat gas heater. That plus my 100kbtu torpedo heater should be plenty to heat my small shop. Not gonna try to hear it all winter just when I am working out there. Right now I just have 9 mil plastic
