Shop Night!!! Rebuild kit for tbi...Update 16.91 MPG!!!

might wanna run a couple cans of Seafoam thru the tank... stuff does wonders for injectors...

16.91 is incredible. Sure beats my 9.5 stop-n-go.

Yes, I'm pretty amazed myself. When I bought it the truck ran good, but I was lucky if I got 12 mpg in stock form. I'm still running everything stock except for the flowmaster catback 3" exhaust kit. Im only running stock wheels and tires, so that helps alot... I've just been really careful and particular as I've tuned and adjusted everything. I keep toying with the idea of lifting it and putting bigger tires on it, but I know my mpg's will drop, and that would really stink since it's my daily driver...

here is a site that has taught me a few things. http://www.tbichips.com/tbimods.htm ...well more than a few since i had no clue about TBI at all. eventually i'll be doing some of these modifications also. the truck i'm getting has the same little symptoms yours was suffering from so thanks for the thread.........cheers on the 16+ mpg. Payday again!!! I bought a new Egr valve ($79.86) on my way home from work. Put it on tonight and finally got rid of my "stumble" at light throttle... I took the truck for a half hour ride, and tried every way I knew that would cause it to stumble and stall, and she runs great. It's been a long, hard struggle to get a 20 year old truck running the way it used to. Known issues I fought with and fixed: bad Oxygen sensor, bad idle air control valve, bad intake manifold gasket, dirty throttle body with 20 year old leaking gaskets and o rings, and a sticking egr valve.

Now on to my leaking rear differential cover!!!

:bow:Hahaha... Rub it in, I'm just glad to finally make some progress, the most frustrating part was the combination of problems. My egr valve even seemed to be functioning, I guess that's why I didn't suspect it sooner. I've been dying to start doing some mods to the truck, but just couldn't see doing anything with it not running 100%. Plus, I've been toying with starting to build the motor that has been sitting in my basement since I sold my old '86 Iroc... I'd love to put a tpi setup on this thing, but I'll stick to the tbi setup. Thanks for all the help so far, the plus side is that now I have a good understanding of how the tbi system works!!!
