Shop press recommendations

looks good Adam.... make sure if ya push the machines limits a bit that you run tooling steel for the adjusting pins, or you'll bend em in short order...

You talkin the pins for the table? Those are hardened DAKE pins. Legit :D

the uprights were the table slides up/down on and hold pins. yours = [___]

my press has them mounted open side out . mine = ]____[

My buddy works at DAKE, he builds presses all day, (expencive fricken presses at that) so he told me what to do and thats how they do theres, i just cut and welded :D

I've got a good steel supply place locally and I own a mig welder and a drill press. Maybe I should just make my own, I wonder how much total cost would be. I'm thinking with the price of steel, maybe modifying a Harbor Freight cheapo would be better?

In my case it was a no brainer to make it. Really not hard but we had all the material, the side channel pre drilled, the porta power we got free for workin on a friends jeep a little. I used stick to weld juat because my welders only 120v so i didnt feel comfortable getting as strong of welds with my mig. If i would have really prepped everything really well and done multiple passes it would be fine im sure. Im into it for $13 for 5lbs of rod lol so cant go wrong with that. Really happy with how it turned out. :D

We may spend a little cash on a bigger power unit with air over eventually if this 10 ton has a hard time, we made it removable with 2 bolts up top.

It would also give me an excuse to buy a band saw at the same time. I hope the missus doesn't see this.....

We cut everything with a dewalt chop saw. Sob cuts anything like butter. A band saw would be freekin sweet though. Id get a horizontal if i ever bought one though. I have no need for a vertical and u cant fit anything very tall or long into one. Imo they are only good for wood work.

I was eyeballing that one on Harbor Freight which is on sale. A friend of the family owns a Jeep parts shop and he said surprisingly the HF one is pretty good. I need to make a welding cart too. I've been using a metal blade in my radial arm saw to make needed cuts. It actually works ok except for catching the wood table on fire every so often....

For most building one is not worth it compared to the price of the hf one. We just had everything laying around and thought what the heck lets make something out of this
