Short Rant about Autozone

Yeah but some O'Reilly's are just as bad... They just don't pay enough. I worked there for 2 years got one 4% raise... but I learned plenty while I was there.

during college, i was doing a tune-up on my pickup. i told the autozone guy the year, engine, model, etc. and instead of a distributor cap, he handed me a distributor gear for a chrysler.

a few months ago, i called pep boys to check the price on a single pole single throw 12 volt 30 amp relay. even though i gave the guy all that info, he had no clue what i was talking about. he had a list of application-specific relays that he started rattling off to me, until i said "thanks anyway" and hung up.

Here is one to try Call and ask if they have a muffler bearing for a 1979 AMC Pacer with Air and a straight six. :haha: :haha: :haha:

I wonder what the heck they would tell ya? :doah:

I have actually done that and the person tried to look it up! Although it wasnt for a pacer. :haha:

If you get it from the zone your on your own.

Well its nice i'm not the only one who hates autozone with a passion. In just the last two weeks i've been given the wrong parts and a bunch of bs from the idiots who work there.

This week i fixed my sister's cavalier. I bought a radiator hose and the kid at the counter asked if it was the upper or lower hose. I tell him the upper and point out which one it was on the computer and he gives me the lower hose anyway. I go back the next day and ask to exchange the hose. The kid at the counter doesnt even see me come in, he's looking in the Want Ads at motorcycles. I'm debating if i should just stand there in front of the counter, see how long it takes for him to come back to reality. So i say "whats goin on, i'm not interupting am i?"
"oh what do you need"
"i need to exchange this hose you gave me yesterday"
"exchange it for what?"
"The right hose"
he asks for the make and model which i give him then asks "UPPER OR LOWER"
"Dude, the opposite of this one you gave me yesterday"
So i get the correct hose.

I go in to see if they can get a transmission cooler line, because i used autozone as a last resort as i tried everywhere else first. The guy i talked to was the STORE MANAGER. New guy and his name tag says store manager so i figure cool, maybe this guy isnt an idiot like the other kid. WRONG!!! He goes to look it up and spells transmission "transmsh..." OMG... you have got to be kidding me! I was hoping it wouldn't show up so i could give him a quick spelling lesson but the computer system is apparently moron proof. He gives me a price and says they have to order it and it'll take a week. I tell him i dont want to wait that long and that i'll find one someplace else. "Oh, i dont think you're gonna find one anywhere else."
"I'm just gonna go to the junkyard, they have everything." This is what i intended to do in the first place but it was raining that day and i'd pay a few extra dollars to stay dry if at all possible.

My sister goes and buys an e-brake cable, i tell her to go to advanced and she doenst know the difference so guess where she goes... yup Autozone.
I told her to order the one for passenger side and they give her one for the drivers side. Sweet... I go take it back and i found out why they gave her that one. There were no more for the passenger side in stock. So i go to Advance and get what i need.

Sorry, but i saw somebody else started a rant about autozone and i had to chime in because i've had some unpleasant experiences with them recently. They used to have a good crew there but now it's staffed by a bunch of idiots. I'll shop elsewhere unless it's absolutely necessary.

Rant off...

I'm lucky to have what I guess is an independently owned shop in the small town near my parents(where i work on my shiz). It recently changed ownership, and isn't near what it used to be. The guy that used to own it never had to look things up, you could come in tell him what you needed for what year model truck, he'd run in the back and bring out. The new people that run it, I'm iffy about...They get the right parts without alot of unneccesary questions, but they do have to look it up, and they are slow at that (i guess learning the program?). But overall I'm pretty happy with them. Plus I had somethin or another...waterpump maybe...that I had bought and had for a month and a half or so, brought it back to them with no receipt and he gave me my money back cause he remembered selling it to me. But back to the original subject...yes I hate vatozone...Luckily I know a couple of guys that know what they are talkin about at Oreilleys so I usually go there.

I work at an Autozone in a small town. We're probably a little better than your average Autozone. I've had people call me and ask for a muffler bearing or a radiator hose for a 1966 VW beetle. I always tell them I just sold the last one we had in stock but I'd be happy to order one for them.
