Local guy is selling a near new warn m8000 (8k lbs) winch for $400. I have a 74 blazer with dana 60 / 14ff with 38's and a big block. I weigh in around 5500 lbs. Do you guys think I would be okay going with this winch and a pulley block or something?

An 8000 lb. winch is better than nothing at all. The general rule is 1.5 times the GVWR so that would put you right at 8000 lbs. I would choose to go bigger like at least a 9000 lb but since you can get that winch for 400.00 i would probably grab it. The rating is for single line pull so if you use a snatch block then that will double the capacity.

Agreed (based on zero experience, haha)

Only wanted to mention that yes, you double capacity with a snatch block, buy you also cut your line speed in 1/2.

Just bought it, and who cares about line speed? Im no competition guy:-)

Good buy. And yah, just bringing up the point about line speed. Competition or not, your time is worth Something. Didn't say it would be a deal breaker, just worth bringing up if you didnt' realize it.
