Today I went to look at a 1985 GMC Sierra 2500 regular cab, long bed. Ladder racks and side toolbox in bed. Body is shot, rust everywhere! Has a rebuilt np208 case and a good th400. The motor is what I am interested in, it is a Goodwrench 4-bolt 350 with about 50k miles. It has a 4 bbl carb and no emissions equipment. Front 10 bolt has manual hubs and rear axle is a 14b semi-floater. Both have 4.10 gears, rear has gov lock. The guy wants $500 but I am sure I can get it for $400. Basically, I figure this is worth it for that motor alone. I can sell the 4x4 th400 and np208 and maybe even sell the axles. I can prob get what, $150 for the body/frame at the junkyard?

What do you guys think? Get it or pass?

I'd say lookk at it as buying it for the motor and whatever you sell off of it as profit. $150 for the body/frame... I dont know what prices are but I'd guess maybe $50, $100-150 for the axles and $100-150 for the trany/transfercase. I dont think I would have walked away from that deal without a deposit, handshake or something saying I want it
I'd do it.

Just to be 100% sure that it is indeed a th400 trans... The shifter says 1, 2, D. I assume that this means that it is a 3 speed, and in 85 there were only 2 automatics: th400 (which is a 3 speed) and 700r4 (which is a 4 speed). Right?
